Get a remanufactured one.

Check the battery, and see if it is able to take and hold a charge. Also, if the battery is flat, not many alternators are able to charge one. Try putting the battery on a charger over night and then see if the alternator is able to maintain the charge. If need be, get the alternator output checked and see where you are at for both voltage and amperage.
