The Engine Check light goes on and off on my Subaru Impreza 2006 model. What does that mean

Asked by BlueSubaru1210 Feb 09, 2015 at 03:07 AM about the 2006 Subaru Impreza

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The Engine Check light goes on for a day then disappears for a day and so on. This
has been going on for four days. The car technician said that there may be a problem
with the catalytic converter. He cancelled the light and said that if it came back on
again I should come it to get the car fixed. It stayed off for a day. Then it came back on
for a day when he was closed and then it went off. Now it came back on.  Does this
mean that there is a problem with the engine or a problem with the sensor?

I'm sure this is frustrating but I don't know if this is "a problem with the engine" or a sensor that has a weak connection and not sending good data all the time or if it is a failing sensor. AFAIK, If it were something related to damaging the catalytic converter, the Check Engine Light (CEL) would be lit constant / solid and the cruise control light would be flashing. I wish I had more info for you. You might look at picking up an OBDii reader that has live data and maybe some other options. Or asking some friends if one has one you can borrow / be available to come read when it comes on again.
