First, what is the condition of the rest of the car? How many miles? A 1998 Saturn S, is not a vehicle I would put a lot of money into. If the car is in decent shape and you want to continue to drive it, I would suggest you purchase a used lower mileage engine. They can be had for around $700 . Then have a mechanic install it for you. That might be $1500. Labor ins't cheap. Check some shops by you if they would perform the service and for costs. Then keep the car a couple years to make the repair worthwhile. Maybe the shop can diagnose your problem and it might be a simple fix not requiring a full replacement?
