car broke down

i have an 06 mitsubishi galant. automatic
transmission. i was at a stop sign and i tried to
accelerate and it made a weird noise then wouldn't
go. the car will rev in low 2 3 reverse and drive, but
will not go. when i put it into park it makes several
loud clinks. i have had no problems until just now. i
am highly stressed because this is my first car
please help

You can check your transmission fluid level with the engine running and in park, at least confirm you have fluid. You might have a problem with your tranny's valve body, or a shift solenoid, or clutch pack... Look up a transmission repair shop in your area, if you can limp pup there good, otherwise get it towed. Don't go to any mechanic, most mechanic shops farm out tranny work to dedicated tranny shops. So just go there directly. Dealership would work also, but much more expensive.
