Dash light went out on the temp gauge panel

Replace the bulb then.

How do I find the bulb

Of course it is going to be in the area of the temperature gauge. To get at it the instrument cluster would need to be take out.

Well do I need a special tool for that

No not really, but I would take it to someone who knows how to do it, as the cluster is a delicate part, so you wouldn't want to damage it. For someone who has done this before, it should only take 15 to 30 minutes to replace.
