where does the third wire on the starter go

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

there are three bolts on a 95 f150 starter, positive, negative, where does the
third one go?

1 Answer

26,810

The two larger ones, one is battery voltage to starter. The other large one, probably has a braided cable that goes down into starter motor housing, that is voltage for starter field. If there is a smaller one, probably feed from crank position of ignition switch. There has to be a trigger signal from ignition switch. good luck
