What engine upgrade can I get for an 1976 Ford F-250

Asked by Dec 29, 2016 at 07:45 PM about the 1976 Ford F-250

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Ford F250 and I was wondering if
I could get a better engine instead of the
360 I have in it currently.  It is not enough
to do the daily tasks that I need so I was
looking for an engine was more
horsepower. I'm not a wealthy guy so if you
could recommend an engine upgrade I'd
be more than happy

There are upgrades you can do for the 360 you have in there, like a bit bigger cam shaft, a Holley 600 or 650 4-barrel carb and a set of headers.

You could go a bigger engine, a 460 would go in there. Or if your just looking for more pulling power and not speed try changing the rear end ratio, I had 4.10's in my old Ford back in those days, it would pull like crazy, but gas mileage was single digit 8 to 9 mpg and it didn't care if it was city or highway loaded or empty, and that was back when the speed limit was 55mph.

A Triton 5.4 would be a great swap.

try to find a 460 (from an old Lincoln cont) and drop off in it should do fine
