82 F150 speedometer gear

The problem started about 2 months ago when the speedometer stoped working. We ended up finding out the gear had broke so I put a new one in and that on gave out after 5 days the third one had lasted for about 2 weeks but now that one died. The gear gose in to the transfer case and I'm at a loss on what to do now becouse it take a week to get one ordered in only to have it crushed. Any thoughts on what would couse this.

the output shaft bearing is bad in the transfer case it lets the output shaft move to close to the speedo gear
