F150 won't go into gear
I have a 1990 f150 Lariate automatic that I work
on and use as a second car. Recently I have had a
problem getting it to go into gear, not all the time.
Just sometimes. . The shifter moves freely from
park to drive. All over. But you never hear it "pop"
into gear. Eventually it will shift. Sometimes if I step
on the gas a little. I know this will just get worse.
Any help diagnosing? Or what to check first
the transmission mounts are cracked and flabby by now...verify by placing a floor jack (with woodblock) under the pan...note the separation and change in shifter geometry...change the bad mounts~ https://www.google.com/#q=1990+f150+Lariat+transmission+mo unts
It sounds like the shift lever will go into the correct position, but the transmission will not engage. If stepping on the gas more causes the vehicle to move, it could be torque converter problems.
