2007 Chevy Cobalt Rough idling, RPM jumping, exhaust smell? or something like it. Help! Check Engine light is also on.

I bought my chevy used.  The day I got it home the check engine light came
on and it started doing some rough idling, what I call "jumping" or jerking a
little.  It does it off and on.

Check for codes. The computer often knows what's wrong and just needs to be asked.

Thank you. I took it to a mechanic and he put new spark plugs, coil and replaced a fuel injector and the car is purring like a kitten now!
