Turns over but won't start.

Asked by Troubledfocus06 Aug 26, 2018 at 11:19 AM about the 2006 Ford Focus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 06 Focus turns over but doesn't start. All lights
on the dashboard light up.  I have checked oil and
fuel.  Was slow to start the last couple of times but
seemed okay. Any advice, please?

I would recommend replacing the battery. Try jump starting it. If it starts, it's likely a battery or alternator.

Make sure your shift sensor is working. It could be called (neutral safety switch, transmission range sensor, or something along those lines.) It's tough to test these sensors without a decent mechanical computer. If it doesn't cost to much, I would buy a new one and return it if it doesn't fix the issue. You could have other issues but its hard to diagnosis without more information about the crank/start attempt (the way it sounds) and if any lights on the dash are on.
