HELP my car is a piece!! It cuts out like its going to die when idle!!
So my 2001 pontiac grand am se is acting up.....again! When I idle it cuts out ands acs like its going to die....and then when I first accelerate it kinda chugs and acts like its just going to break down and then once I get going its ok for a minute. the service engine soon lighr security light and trac off light is on any ideas on what it could be?
You can find out why the SES light is on by having the codes read at the parts store. That should give you a clue about the rough idle and chugging. A steady security light doesn't mean much - a flashing security will prevent your engine from starting. No idea why you have the "trac off" light unless the button above the radio has been pushed. Head over to GAOwnersClub.com for answers to the individual questions.
The throttle position sensor will cause the service engine light and track off light to both come on together. It will chug and shift hard when that happens.
Don't forget about the IAC valve...mine is a 95 but that was huge problem for me sounds like your car is doing the same thing mine did...i replaced it and the problem stopped
start by having a diagnostic done to trace where the problem is, change all filters
