Why does abs light stay on

Asked by Jo Mar 28, 2020 at 08:24 PM about the 2016 Jeep Patriot

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 2016 Jeep Patriot less than 36K .
New throttle sensor $900 then 2 weeks later
while driving the ABS and slippery light just
popped on at same time.  What is it? Don’t
have $ to keep having it “fixed” thanks

The ABS light on is probably a wheel spreed sensor wiring or the sensor itself. a shop or yourself can hook up an OBDii code scanner that reads ABS codes to determine which side or wheel it is. Since the light is ON, that means the ABS braking will not work in an emergency. So get ready to pump the brakes when you need to stop short if you aren't repairing it. Consider selling the Patriot for something more reliable?

Same thing happened to me yesterday, while passing another car on a narrow road, my passenger front tire dropped off the curb. it didnt seem to cause any damage to the tire or the jeep, drove it about 15 miles fine no issues, but when i restarted it the next time, it showed those lights. we put it on the code reader and it shows no codes at all. took the posi terminal off and pumped the brakes, the slick light went off but abs is still on. the jeep runs fine no issues and no, trading or selling is not an option for me. next i am going to check brake fluid then if light stays on i will check the sensor in the wheel hub. hopefully it isnt an expensive fix because it will just have to stay on i guess,
