2014 Cherokee - liftgate opens randomly
In the past few weeks the liftgate has started opening by itself intermittently. I switched to the spare key fob to see if that was it. It did not make a difference. I took it to the dealership but they could not find anything and they sent me home. In the past couple of days the liftgate opens every time I park the car, even though the keys are in the cup holder and I have not pressed the button to open the liftgate.
Check you owners manual and see if this is some kind of personalized feature. Like, for example, doors that lock when you shift out of park. If it is, perhaps someone set it accidentally. Some of these features are set through the radio or a touch screen display. If it continues and you have no luck with the Dealer call Chrysler's customer service department and file a complaint. You shouldn't have to worry about your back door flying open at will! HTH. -Jim
It's possible that one of the lift gate buttons on the vehicle is jammed or shorted. The lift gate electronics are disabled when you're not in park, so that could be why it opens when you put it in park.
