what do the interia cut off switch do on a 1986 jaguar xj6

Asked by Jan 25, 2014 at 01:27 AM about the 1986 Jaguar XJ-Series

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1 Answer

The inertia cut off switch is a switch that normally shuts off the fuel pump if you should get rear ended or any other major impact. This keeps the pump from running, causing leakage that might lead to a fire. The 86 Jag might have the "Smiths" style inertia switch which can be reset by normally pushina a button on top of it. I may be off on my years because it has been at least 25 years since I last experienced this problem
