2012 F150 won't crank and sticks in 5th gear when it does

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2012 F150 FX2. About two months ago it
wouldn't crank. I can jump it off but when I do it
shifts hard and goes to 5th gear when I put it in
drive. I have been to 3 different mechanics including
a Ford dealership...no one has been able to
determine what is wrong. I'm about at my wits end
with this truck. Does anyone have this problem or
know what it could be?

Did they try to read the transmission codes? Did you resolve the starting issue?

I don't know if they read the transmission codes. And I picked it up yesterday from dealership. It ran fine. Cranked it this morning once before work and it was fine. 30 minutes later when I was leaving for work, it just clicked and had to jump it off. This afternoon when I was leaving work, it clicked the first time and then turned over and cranked without jumping it off.

Perhaps the battery is weak. I would test it and the alternator output. If the battery keeps dying you may have a parasitic battery drain.

Test for a parasitic battery drain. I would also test the battery in case it is bad. Go ahead and clean and tighten the battery connections.

The 6R80 transmission is a fully electronic transmission which operates via 7 electro magnetic solenoids controlled by the PCM. If Ford cannot figure it out, I suggest you contact the regional office for Ford and make a complaint. The dealership should be able to contact manufacturer reps for answers.
