Your Ford Focus with the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine has a timing chain. With normal use and maintenance it should last the life of the engine. Unlike Honda, Toyota, VW, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai, etcetera with that dreaded timing belt that breaks and destroys your engine.

If we are still talking Ford Focus, the 2007 model year came with two engine options. They were the 2.0 liter and 2.3 liter four cylinder engine and they both have the steel timing chain.

If that 1.8TDCI Sport is a diesel, it's an interference engine. The fact that it might be getting 50 mpg offsets the maintenance cost of replacing the belt at 100K miles. Some shops will do that for about $500. Interference or not, I would get it done so you don't get stranded when it breaks.

Where did you come up with all of those other makes of vehicles have a timing belt? You are completely wrong on that. Virtually all vehicles have timing chain now.
