What exactly do you mean by "turns on and off without a sound"? When you turn the key to the ON position, do you hear a click and/or hum at all before you turn the key to the start position? If you don't, you need to start at the battery positive terminal with a circuit tester checking for power, and follow that cable and all connections to their ending place making sure the entire circuit is getting power first. Does everything else on the car work when you turn the key to the on position, such as lights & radio etc.? If they do, then you have power to the car, but necessarily to the start/charging system. It could be a fuse, relay or fusible link, or a disconnected wire someplace in the starting system. If your fuse panel & under hood power box still have their covers, you should be able to find these with no problem. Let me know what you do and what happens.
