Reving

Asked by Fedup_73 Sep 22, 2018 at 08:46 AM about the 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 73 super beetle that the
previous owner installed dual webers
on.  I have some put two new ones on it
but when the engine gets warmed up it
wants to rev high when I come to a
stop.  It will gradually come down some
but it does right back after the next
drive cycle. Can someone give me an
idea on where to go.  Ive had everything
adjusted and the carbs tuned,allegedly..

Maybe your gas pedal linkage or cable has gummed up or is sticking. Get a stronger return spring? Anything but original carburation may be too much for such a tiny engine. Also look for vacuum leaks around the carbs.

Are the chokes connected to a heat source or power supply. Warm the engine then check to see if the chokes are still partially closed
