Clicking noise

Asked by Jun 14, 2016 at 11:44 PM about the 1999 Ford Windstar

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1999 Ford Windstar LX 3.8L V6 200hp,  a
very good van, just a little over 140000 miles,
when ever I step on the gas pedal I hear a clicking
noise,  my  friend told me it needs alignment, and
my father told me it involves the transmission, the
clicking noise comes from the front of the car,
almost at the front axle area, any suggestions? Is
this problem fixable?

might check the u-joints for excessive wear~

Clicking noises in that area are usually C/V joints, look under there and see if the boots are torn and have leaked out all of the lube, if that is the case then the joint will have to be replaced, but a lot of people just replace the entire axle assembly cause it's a lot quicker and most don't have the equipment for disassembling the axles and replacing the C/V joint itself.
