Have a 99 ford escort I want to know if a bad o2 sensor would cause it to smoke and drive badly

Car is starting to blow white smoke from exhaust and it looses gas pressure when driving
sometimes is this caused byna bad o2 sensor

white smoke usually means headgasket check oil if it looks like chocolate milk that's what it is
