p/s light after changing battery

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just changed my car battery after the previous one had gone dead (checked
the alternator and it is ok). Now the car starts, radio etc. all ok, but the P/S light
is coming on. There is also a plasticy/chemical smell but I don't know if that is
just a normal new battery smell. Do you think I have done something wrong
with connecting the battery?

Update: I re-calibrated the power steering by turning the wheel all the way to the left, then centre, then all the way to the right. I did this a couple of times. The light went off as soon as I started driving. That seems to have fixed the issue.

Hey, can you tell me in more details how to do that? Do I need to short any legs on the service socket? So far I had no luck finding a way to do this.
