what causes fuel in crankcase

One cause is a leaky fuel injector.


Yes. Or one thats stuck open. Or loss of spark. In any case if you can see the gas that is not good. You'll most likely need to run it to narrow down the problem, if it is really gassy I would drain and put fresh oil in it, find and fix the problem than change the oil.
