how does a reverse switch work on the cj7

For the back-up lights? Looks like it is screwed into the transmission and works off of a device that gets pushed to make a circuit when shifted into reverse. Here is a picture..... https://www.carid.com/1983-jeep-cj-electrical-parts/standard-back-up-light-switch-165745718.html
