1968 Pontiac Catalina Convertible, replacement parts for the convertible top

Asked by MKVoigt Oct 22, 2018 at 08:39 AM about the 1968 Pontiac Catalina

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '69 Pontiac Catalina Convertible - when putting the top up I have to do it
manually. The convertible top switch is working. The top goes down very easily
but not when putting the top up. What can I do?

A weak cylinder pump, or one low on fluid, will cause the pump to run slowly up and the motor/pump will squeal from stress of trying to push, or the top will not go up at all. Access pump and add approved fluid (specs should be on the pump and in the owners manual). Manuals are also available on-line. Meanwhile, Try to raise manually while someone runs the switch.

I do have another question.....where is the cylinder pump located in a 1968 Pontiac Catalina convertible?

Look in the front part of the trunk under the corners of the top; might be behind removable panels.
