From another user, "We bought a new 2009 motor home (1/4 million dollars) and then had a list from Camping World that showed all 4-wheels that could be flat towed. So we bought the new (over priced) Escape. Now we are sitting again tonight in TN with our transmission burned up and sitting at a Ford dealership 100 miles away and they cannot get to it for a week...to even look at it. The dealer told us the Escape could be flat towed, Camping World has been told so, and the manual says it can...you can bet we are not going to be nice this time around." And this as well... "Since I wrote the last article we contacted the BBB and Mazda has stepped up and installed, at no charge, a Remco transmission pump. The tranny on the Tribute and Escape is not made to pump when the engine is not running so it is not being lubed. I noticed that neither is on the list in the 2012 Dinghy Towing Guide." Seems like the best way to go is NOT to flat tow, and use a dolly instead. Since my sister's is 4x4, we used a flatbed to move it across country. I'm not an expert, but I'd say, if your Escape is front NOT a 4x4, then putting the front wheels on a dolly should prevent any damage to the transmission. Hope this helps.
