If you want the more-powerful engine, you might as well get the sportier profile, too. The 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbocharged Coupe matches the picture to the action. Under the hood is the turbocharged 2.0-liter DOHC inline-four engine that puts out 260 hp and 260 ft-lbs of torque (at a low 2,000 RPM). The engine comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission only. The front-wheel-drive coupe sits on a Macpherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension and offers beefier 18-inch alloy wheels with performance tires, a 22mm rear stabilizer bar, larger 4-wheel disc brakes, a rear spoiler, and special SS stitching on the seats.
The 2009 Cobalt SS Coupe also adds stability control to standard safety equipment, which includes traction control, dual front-side airbags with passenger sensors, 4-wheel ABS brakes, and side door beams. Automatic halogen headlamps, foglights, a tire monitor, and OnStar provide extra assurance on the road. For the SS Coupe, a high wing rear spoiler and limited-slip differential are available.
The coupe loses 2 inches of rear headroom, but legroom remains the same (42 inches up front, 34 in the back). The 60/40 split-folding seats and an armrest pass-through open onto a 13.9-cubic-foot trunk. A cargo net is standard, as are storage consoles inside the cabin. Other SS upgrades include a 7-speaker sound system, leather trim, and wheel-mounted audio controls. Already included are full power features, remote entry, cruise control, a trip computer, Bluetooth, a security system, and a CD/MP3 player with separate input jack and satellite radio. Two front power outlets, intermittent wipers, a temperature readout, a tachometer, and tilt and power steering make up the rest of the conveniences. There are few options left for the 2009 Cobalt SS Coupe, but you can add a sunroof.
