The 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt has received excellent reviews overall, with the only complaints centering on the size-type problems: the engine, passenger area, and cargo room are also cited as lacking in space. Otherwise, consumers have been near-ecstatic in their words about this car. The fuel economy is excellent, it's peppy, and it has a lot of standard features that one would not expect from a car in this price range.
Of course, the price range is strangely variable. Depending on options and trims, the price can range from just under $13,000 to well over $20,000 depending on engine, trim (the SS is very popular), and features.
All in all, until gas sinks back under $3.00 a gallon-I mean if it ever does-anyway, this is a perfect car for the 2000s.

What drew me to this car was the sharp look and great red color. The gas mileage is wonderful and the car is really fun to drive. It handles very well and I always felt like the car was solid and safe to drive. The car has only needed general maintenance and has been very economical to own. I did have both recalls taken care of and haven't had any issues with the car at all. Would recommend this car to a relative or friend.Jan 20, 2015

People notice when you are driving the Cobalt 2 Door Coupe. It has the look and feel of a sports car without the price of a sports car. It is fun to drive, and it gets awesome gas mileage.
The interior is pretty quiet, and the seats are comfortable.
The car performs pretty well for a four cylinder.Jul 08, 2013

205hp from a 2.0L supercharged engine in a car that weights under 2900lbs is just sweet! And from the dyno's I've seen, all 205hp are at the wheels. not to mention I average 29mpg, country back-roads driving mostly.
The handling is great, I'll chicken out before I ever get to it's limits. Breaking good too, but they heat up quick, then again I have pretty cheap pads on it.
The 5spd transmission is a complete joy to shift, in fact everything about driving this car is nothing but rewarding. I love it!Oct 05, 2012

For a 2.2l four cylinder 148hp car this thing rocks. Most cars with 200hp or even
more can beat it if you can drive it well. Launch is great, acceleration is great,
braking is ok, handling is awesome. Stylish and fun to drive awesome carFeb 28, 2012

Small coupe with decent quality interior, though there are some cheap plastics, Performance is ok with a decent power to weight ratio and good transmission mapping, Fairly cheap to own and drive, very little wrong with it, fun to drive on a week to week basis, but it can get pretty dull.Feb 27, 2012

accelerates slowly, great breaks and handles great even in the snow. The air never shut off throughout the car, so the fans must remain on. Cute car, roomy trunk, however small leg area in the back. Gets amazing gas milage. Overall fitting for my driving typleMay 21, 2010

great speed for a four cylinder, good gas mileage when cruising. handles great
now because i have eibach springs on it now. havent needed to repair anything
yet so gas is the only cost of the car, which is not much at all. 20 bucks a week
maybe? car looks good now but still has so much potential.Mar 29, 2010

This is one of those cars that looks good on the spec sheet or even just parked. However, out on the road it disapoints.
Sport suspension, large disc brakes, a big 2.4L VVT DOHC 4 cly with high compression do not translate into a fun ride.
One of the big problems is the 4 speed automatic, it's just not happy pairing to this engine. In fact, it's an unhappy one. You can hear this by the way the two sound--a whinny, lethatrgic moan is emitted most of the time.
It proclaims, "I am not having fun here!" The thrust is okay when you floor it off the line--but theres not alot there when you moving and you get on it. Unless it does some high rpm downshift to a much lower gear it will just provide modest accleration.
The gas mileage is decent in the city. Not great but not bad either. As with most cars, on the highway its very good.
Then theres the ride quality or lack there of. In the name of high shid pad g number it sacfifices alot of ride compliance. Instead of absorbing road irregularities it just crashes over them. I feel that the spring rates are just to hard.
The steering is another let down. It's an electric setup which is done to save a very smalll amount of mileage and is becoming very common. That's fine by itself but the problem is the feel. It's a bit too heavy, vague and very artifiical feeling. Like your playing some arcade game.
Despite my misgivings with the suspension and steering you can corner quite fast--which might be the only smile this car ever gives you.
Other then that, it is well built car that has a solid feel to it. The brakes inspire a fair amount of confidence and has a very firm brake pedal.

Wish the 4-door models looked as sleek as the 2-door. The Manuals seem to have problems with the clutch more so then other vehicles of the same type. The interior looks as nice as the exterior though. Great sporty looking vehicle for the price.Jan 25, 2010

Performance is quite good. A few simple mods go a long way. Very little body roll with stock suspension. Build quality is nothing spectacular, but I have no complaints. Interior is a bit plain, but this car is meant for handling and auto-x more than it is for comfort. Good gas mileage car, 26 city, and 35 hwy. This car is very fun to drive and very predictable when you decide to have a little fun. Nov 27, 2009

My girlfriend is using it. So far, trouble free car. Very low cost maintenance, no warranty issues at all. Has 46k. Car drives well and is fully loaded: Leather, heated seats, Panasonic factory subwoofer, XM radio, fog lights, ABS, traction ctrl, automatic headlights, polished alloy wheels, chrome tail pipe, chrome ext moulding and handles, wood trims, information computer, cruise, leather wrapped steering wheel with audio-cruise functions, mp3 jack, spoiler. All is OEM components. LTZ is a very rare trim level. Almost a Cimarron ;)Sep 08, 2009

Its a pretty good car. The horse power is pretty good but wish I had the limited slip option to get the power to the road. Its not bad on gas as long as you do not rev it like crazy but thats just common sense. Great car, go drive one!May 17, 2009

This car is technically mine but I can't drive it because my mom is paying for it. A great successor to the Chevy Cavalier, this one looks, handles, and drives better. Not the supercharged version, but still has power where its needed. Just wish it was a manual.May 15, 2009

First off I must say that this car is amazing. I love the way it feels on the road with the speed sensitive steering. It has a solid suspension that can handle some serious G's for a non-performance model. I got mine in rally yellow and when it's clean, believe it or not, I actually get many complements about how nice it looks. The 2.2L Ecotec engine has plenty of power and torque for a car this size (this car can outrun a V6 camaro). Not only that but I achieve 34 MPG on the highway. The Cobalt also has an extremely clean interior with studies showing that is has the least amount of cancer causing agents in the materials used. Not only that, but it's emissions levels are among the lowest in it's class. This is truly a great car for them money.May 05, 2009

My Cobalt has excellent performance, plenty of power
for a four-cylinder and handles great. It is build solid
and in great shape for a previous rental car. It has very
few, small nicks and scratches. It gets 30 mpg in and
around mileage but has not yet been tested on a long
trip with highway mileage. No problems so far and is a
fun little car to drive, not to mention stylish as well.

Got this car brand new!!! Only paid 16K for it. I love this car! The only downside is that it doesn't have the spoiler that i wanted. It is MP3 compatable and has a CD player. I've already had to replace a rim on the front driver's side. It gets 23 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. Jul 31, 2008

Performance- Very quick, supercharged, can buy stage kits upping horsepower to 245.
Build Quality- Very good for an domestic. No repairs
Appearance- Amazing color(sunbust orange) Very masculine looking car, the ladies heads are always turning.
Fun Factor- It's supercharged, short throw 5-speed. Very fun to drive, handles great and rides good for a performance car.
I would recommend this car, but they stoped making the supercharged model, but will have a turbocharged model with a similar price tag of 23,000-24,000. and the turbo model will have 260 HP.

Bought this car to serve as my new daily driver after some drunk hit my Camaro (which used to be my daily driver).
I have quickly begun to like this car a lot. Sure, it's not an SS, but it has nice throttle response, and the when you floor it, it'll spin the tires pretty decently from a dead stop, and once you hit about 3500 RPM, it pulls like crazy. Not to mention, it gets great gas mileage. Brakes work great to slow this little 2600 pound car around, and it handles better than most front wheel drive cars I've driven.
The quality is certainly good on this car. Obviously, it has the occasional clunk or what not, but it's to be expected from a cheap compact car. The interior is very nice, and is really sporty. The seats are very comfortable and hold you in while making some hard turns.
The stock audio system is excellent. You can crank it without any distortion or rattling. It also has a built in Aux jack on the front, so I can use my mp3 player.
The car has a nice look to it as well (girls think it's cute, which is good, I guess), and it looks really nice in white.
This is certainly a fun little car to own (should get more fun as I modify it a little bit - for fuel mileage, of course. *wink*)
Very much recommended!Jul 13, 2008

The car's looks are really starting to grow on me. I really liked the interior looks and the exterior as well. The wing blocks a lot of the view behind you, but why worry about them. The supercharger is very easy to hear when you step on it, but I was actually a little dissapointed with the power. It was quick, but I was expecting a lot more.Apr 12, 2008

My first car to own. Most of all I like that chevy discontinued the production of the cobalt in "sunburst orange" (the color of mine). It's a bit extra money, but go for the automatic windows and locks, but i recomend the manual transmission. good gas mileage, great acceleration for an I4. pretty standard handling among it's competitors although the power assist itself is quieter than all others. instead of a power steering pump attached to the engine (which also requires more used HP) the cobalt has an electric steering column that makes almost no noise at all.Apr 11, 2008

The 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS SC is a quick, stylish little sports car. Maybe not suited for an older demographic, but sure tailored for the interests of the younger drivers, speaking as one of them! The 2.0L DOHC ECOTEC four-cylinder engine comes with an Eaton Supercharger providing an extra boost with a great transition when it kicks in unlike the lag of a turbocharger. The Cobalt is quick, and the clutch and short-throw shifter have a very smooth, close-coupled action with well-spaced gears. With a very wide torque band, excessive shifting is certainly not necessary, and there is little need to get up into fifth except on the highways. Handling is superb on the Cobalt with stiffer springs, tuned shocks and a larger anti-roll bar, allowing it to focus on the sharp turns without either the front or rear wheels going wide! The performance on this car is great but still could be improved with Chevy definitely leaving room open for modifications. The exterior is simple, yet very sleek and with the addition of the huge rear spoiler wing, surely does not make this car look boring! Riding on 18" Pirelli PZero Rosso performance tires and high polished alloy wheels gives the Cobalt a good grip on the road with the added style. On the inside, the Cobalt is fitted together fairly well! There's plenty of leg room up front, however the rear seating is cramped. But I don't sit in the back so who cares! Even so, all seats are very comfortable! The nicely designed Recaro bucket seats hold the driver and passenger in place on sharp turns and are comfortable enough for long treks. As for the controls, luckily Chevrolet improved the Cobalt by giving the 2007 version a redesigned center console, which provided a better setup and look. The steering wheel was also redone to give a more comfortable feel when driving. The SS comes with a 7-speaker premium Pioneer sound system with amplified tweeters and rear subwoofer, that delivers awesome quality and sound when listening to music! A lot of trunk space for a small car, but small opening. Rounding off the interior, Chevrolet gave the SS a nice little touch by including a boost gauge! With reasonable fuel economy and being well priced the Cobalt SS SC certainly provides a lot of enjoyment behind the wheel!Feb 13, 2008

Black exterior, completely black interior. Didn't spring for the Quaife differential and I probably should have. Alberta car with 12,000 kms since August. Minor problem (faulty ground) during 1st week of driving, kept stalling. Dealer fixed under warranty, fault-free since then. Handles so nicely and so much fun to drive. Good low end torque rounded out by lots of top end.Feb 11, 2008

I have been waiting for over 5 years to purchase a car and this is the first one. The 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged is my first car that I can add to my resume of cars. All I can say is, it is about time that Chevy got rid of the Cavalier and built something with balls. For all of those that think this is just a Cavalier but looks a little sportier, you couldn't be more wrong. I have driven a Cavalier and obviously I have driven this and there is no comparison. As far as looks, they aren't even close to looking the same, the Cobalt has FAR MORE performance and handling and it's a lot more fun to drive. It's one of those cars (compared to a Civic or Cavalier) when you hear the motor roaring, your actually moving, unlike a civic or a cavalier that just puts along with 8,000RPM and your only doing 30km/h. For my first car, it has been a great experience. Unfortunately there are no mods done to it yet, but I assure you they are coming!!!!Dec 04, 2007

We have had a cpl problems with it. The brake rotors have now been turned twice in the last 2 months or so and the door handles have had to be replaced(manu.fac. defect) the sunroom button as well has been replaced(manu.fac. defect) but other than that it is a great car. Needs a little more low end power gas is pretty good i average 28mpg mostly highwya driving as we live in the country.I bought the car in Aug 06 with 50 miles off show room floor as of today it has 22,000 miles. The weight isnt proportioned right if getting on it out of a corner the rear wants to try to pass ya a bit. But other than those few things I'm really havppy with itMar 20, 2007
The engine, abs, traction control, anti theft lights came lights dimmed power steering went out and so did the radio drove it where I could park then it died . After awhile it started here and there had to jump it a few times what's going on with it ?
Driving when engine, abs, traction control, &anti theft lights came on the power steering and radio went out rpm shot up then down gas gauge didn't work it bogged down thankfully i dint have to drive far it died as I was pulling in wouldn't start back up for several hours had to jump it a few times it wouldn't stay running does anyone know what this could be ?
I have a 2007 Chevy cobalt. I have replaced the thermostat, the radiator, checked oil fluids and my car overheats to 240 and then I shut it off and the fans stays running for 3-4 minutes. I pulled into work today and now there is a considerable steady flowing leak( antifreeze) on the passenger side underneath. I'm thinking i need a water pump, but a mechanic I went to told me if it still overheats get an engine. I don't want to keep spending money I don't have. And as a female I feel I am being taken for a ride when I go to the shops.. ughhhh Some advice PLEASE
I have a 2007 chevy cobalt ss and my key broke in the ignition in 3 pieces, the tip is lodged in the ignition still and i have the other 2 pieces. We had a mechanic try and get it started but it was a fail and he may have clipped a red wire (not sure what it is). Will i have to get it reprogrammed if I pay for the new ignition switch? I am wondering if it will be worth the time and hassle to even pay for a new ignition switch!!! Please help i am total clueless about cars
