The main changes for the GMC Envoy in 2006 came in the form of some exterior changes and stability control. Otherwise, this midsize luxury SUV retains the same general features from the previous year. The 2006 GMC Envoy comes in 6 trims: 2WD and 4WD versions of the SLE, SLT, and Denali.
The SLE and SLT use a 4.2 L, 291 hp I6 engine with 4 speed automatic transmission while the Denali packs some extra power with its 5.3 L, 300 hp V8. All trims have 4 doors, seat 5, and generally get 15 mpg in the city and 21 on the highway. Towing capacity across trims ranges from 5200 to 6600 lbs. As for features, power and leather seats come as options in the SLE and as standard features in the SLT and Denali.
If reviewers could talk directly to the execs at GMC about the 2006 Envoy, they'd say 'nice try, but no cigar.' While the SUV has a lot of options and powerful engine choices, drivers would appreciate better handling and steering. The 2006 Envoy represents a decent effort for a domestic SUV. However, GMC will need to go back to the drawing board if it intends to turn the Envoy into a legitimate contender.

GMC ENVOY DENALI is a tremendous value. It is the next value up collectible like BRONCO, BLAZER, and Suburban. Easily customizable, tunable and standout. The Corvette of SUVs. I've owned and/built 16 of them. I currently have 2 2006 models that have upgraded in handling and power. Top speed has been increased to 138 mph. Bilsteins, Hotchkis and Wildfire make them handle. Wildfire exhaust makes them purr. Rust free Texas cars. Terrific value!!!!
May 19, 2025GMC Envoys are great vehicles. I owned a 2006 which I bought used and it was a fantastic vehicle. It was caught in a flood and totaled so I found a 2004 and have had it for about 5 years. No issues. They are dependable and ride well. I will buy another if something happens to this one. I would recommend GMC Envoys to anyone.

August 1, 2024have had this car for over one year and only had to replace one major part that had a rock chip in it. over all for the having a V8 it gets decent gas at 19 in the city. and the V8 has the power to get you on the highway very easily.

February 6, 2021Got my used a week ago...beautiful truck. My only concern is gas mileage, but I probably just gotta get used to having a bigger and more powerful engine. It is a nice upgrade from my '99 Tracker..love my "new" ride.
January 21, 2010Inexpensive, practical, powerful engine, mushy handling. Inexpensive, practical, powerful engine, mushy handling. This vehicle is likely no longer logical with the new crossovers coming from GM and others. Not sure why a 2008 model was made. The handling is mushy. the engine is strong. The ride is bouncey and road and wind noise is too loud. Engine starts loud. Breaks and traction lights always coming on at weird times for no apparent reason. With all that said, this type of car us a must have for my life style. Next time it will likely be a slightly smaller crossover for me. Times have changed Pros: roomy powerful Cons: mushy handling, interior noise, old style
