Outside of a slightly larger fuel tank and a couple new exterior colors, not much changed for the base GMC Envoy in 2003. The midsize SUV has a 4.2 L, 275 hp I6 engine with 4 speed automatic transmission. In addition, the 2003 Envoy comes in 4 trims: SLE 2WD, SLE 4WD, SLT 2WD, and SLT 4WD.
As for other specs, the 2003 GMC Envoy gets you 15-16 mpg in the city and 21-22 mpg on the highway. All trims have 4 doors and seat 5. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, ABS brakes, and cd player. As an added bonus, the SLT trim also have standard power and leather seats. Towing capacity maxes out at around 6200-6300 lbs.
Overall, drivers like the options, interior design, and the engine power. On the other hand, reviewers feels that the 2003 GMC Envoy could use some improvement in its steering and handling. While this model may have enough to satisfy you, keep in mind that you've got other choices in the SUV market that can offer even more.

I liked the safety of the size of the vehicle but still felt like I was driving a car, not a truck. There were many features that made it so convenient - multiple DC outlets, charging electronics without having to keep the car running. Used the heated seats all the time. Comfortable seating with many different settings. Good-sized back seat and rear storage space.
Did not like the location of the spare tire, but at least it was a full-sized tire, not a space-saver tire.Aug 27, 2013

good car to drive and looks good ten years later has never let me down with the center console latch breaking being the only issue I have ever had. Would recommend the envoy for towing. It gets around good towing a ski boat and does top notch in the snow.Jul 02, 2013

Very reliable, runs and drives well. Mine has over 82K miles and runs, looks and drives just like the day I took it home from the dealer. It's not perfect. It is very hard on brakes and sometimes won't start on very cold days. Fuel economy is poor. However, on balance this is a very well built SUV and worth every penny. Nov 14, 2009

Alright.. this is our new vehicle and loving it already!! only deal is you really don't wanna break the parts on these bad boys.. tires ranging from 150-300 dollars and those are stock size and "cheap" tires to the grill costing 450 dollars to replace if it breaks. all in all this is a very reliable vehicle and quiet as a mouse when on the highway (tires depending). with proper maintenance this vehicle will last and last.
Pro's - amazing ride, with Trac. control and quiet, which i was dumbfounded to find. the Trac. control help a bundle in the winter up here and the fuel efficiency is magnificent for an SUV. perfect for the camper or weekend warrior, or even the family man.
Con's - ....... price for parts, cannot stress enough how important it is to take care of these. tire's were bound to be expensive just on their size alone but bust a tie rod or bushings and you could be out 700+ bucks. had a friend who broke his grill and GM wanted to charge 450 bucks to replace it, so he went aftermarket for 230 dollars.
All in all i would recommend this vehicle to anybody who hates getting stuck in the snow, mud or just likes to have fun driving to the grocer. its an amazing vehicle and incredible dependable and GM really outdid themselves on this vehicle. Feb 19, 2009

Hand me down from the parents after they bought a new vehicle. Love the look, heated seats, excellent A/C, good siteline and excellent sound system. Obviously I don't like the gas mileage! I only get about 18-20 at the most, which is depressing at times, but it's a great truck, I would recommend it if you need this size vehicle. Can't beat the 4WD in the Northeast.Aug 17, 2008

4.2L Vortec 4200 I-6 is one of the best engines I've ever had. Responsive, fast, comfortable.

Never owning an SUV before, I wasn't sure what to think of the Envoy. But It rides beautifully and I love driving it. If only it was a bit better on fuel.Feb 05, 2008
Engine was over heating. I replaced the thermostat and water pump. Filled the system with coolant and ran it. RPM's would get very low (5 seconds-ish) then bounce back up then drop again (20-30 Seconds-ish). Engine continued to over heat and noticed the radiator fan wasn't coming on. Fan Clutch?
I had my fuel pump replaced on a 2003 GMC Enovoy SLT and it went into anti theft mode causing not to start. How do I get it out of anti theft mode so I can start my vehicle?
What years of transmission are interchangeable in my 03 envoy SLT. I was told only an 03 will go in an 03 due to being an odd year when they tried out a newer model of the hydra matic
