The BMW 323 became the entry-level car for BMW's 3-Series Sedans in 1999, when it replaced the 318 in the North American market. The car is targeted at drivers who can afford either the top-of-the-line model of a mid-range auto maker but could be swayed to go for a BMW.
And the 323 builds a strong case for opting for luxury. Drivers and automotive journalists have generally given the car high marks since a complete redesign of the 3-Series line up in 1999.
Unlike its four-cylinder predecessor, the 323 has an 2.5 liter, inline six. Recent models have pumped out 174 horse and have been driven by a six-speed manual as standard equipment.
The 323 was replaced by the 325 in the 2001 model year. The car has made a minor resurgence with the reintroduction of the 323 to the canadian market in the 2006 model year.
