Reviews SummaryWith power sliding side doors, three rows of comfortable seats, and plenty of expandable cargo room, the 2026 Sienna checks off the minivan must-haves—even though its maximum cargo room pales in comparison to other minivans. It offers standard hybrid power, too, accompanied by best-in-class fuel economy, and there's even an available all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that adds extra traction in the winter. Verdict: The 2026 Toyota Sienna’s safety ratings are a concern, but rivals don’t offer significantly better overall performance in this area. So, if shoppers want a fuel-efficient minivan equipped with AWD, here it is.
Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2026 Hyundai Venue was a compact vehicle that straddled the line between a crossover SUV and a tall hatchback. Despite its classification as a midsize car by the EPA, its design leaned more towards a crossover with SUV-like features such as a bluff nose and standard roof rails. The Venue's exterior was characterized by a high nose, lower headlights, and high-set daytime running lights, giving it a distinctive look. The interior was simple and functional, with a digital instrument cluster adding a modern touch, although the small touchscreen felt like an afterthought. The Venue's design was more suited to urban environments, with its compact size and European-inspired aesthetics.
In contrast, the 2026 Toyota Sienna, particularly in the Woodland Edition trim, aimed for an outdoorsy appeal but fell short in ruggedness. The Cypress green color was fitting for its name, but the subtle suspension lift and tow hitch didn't quite deliver the adventurous look. Inside, the Sienna's black interior felt dark and uninviting, lacking the warmth and quality expected from a vehicle in its price range. The interior materials, including the shifter and glove compartment, felt flimsy, and the overall design needed an upgrade to match its intended theme. Despite these shortcomings, the Sienna's wide, low dashboard and center console provided a more crossover SUV-like feel from the driver's seat.

The 2026 Hyundai Venue was not known for its performance, powered by a modest 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. This power was channeled through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front wheels, with no all-wheel drive option available. The Venue's acceleration was sluggish, with a 0-60 mph time ranging from 8.5 to 8.8 seconds, but its lightweight construction at 2,738 pounds helped it feel peppy in city traffic. However, highway driving revealed the limitations of its power, with the transmission struggling to provide the necessary thrust for passing. The Venue's handling benefited from its small size and low weight, making it agile in urban settings, though its ride could be jiggly on rough surfaces due to the solid rear axle.
The 2026 Toyota Sienna, on the other hand, featured a hybrid powertrain with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine, a nickel-metal hydride battery pack, and an electric motor, delivering a combined 245 horsepower. This setup was standard across all Sienna models, with the Woodland Edition and Platinum trims offering an e-AWD system. Despite its 4,625-pound weight and capacity to seat up to eight people, the Sienna's powertrain provided adequate performance in urban and suburban environments, though it lacked the reserve power for highway passing or climbing steep grades. The Sienna's fuel efficiency was commendable, with an EPA rating of 35 mpg combined for AWD models, though real-world testing showed slightly lower figures. The Woodland Edition's increased ground clearance and all-season tires were not suited for serious off-road adventures, and its driving experience was described as dull compared to competitors like the Honda Odyssey. However, the Sienna offered a smooth ride and predictable handling, with the low center of gravity contributing to stability in corners.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered a practical interior with cloth and H-Tex seats that mimicked sport seats, providing comfort and manual adjustments for a natural driving position. While headroom was ample, legroom was limited for taller occupants, both in the front and rear seats. The rear seat could accommodate two adults comfortably, but three would be a tight fit. The Venue's cargo space was modest, with 31.9 cubic feet available when the rear seats were folded flat, and 18.7 cubic feet with the seats up. The interior materials reflected cost-cutting measures, with hard black plastic dominating the cabin, and only a few soft-touch surfaces.
The 2026 Toyota Sienna excelled in practicality, with features like a four-zone climate control system and power sliding doors providing convenience for families. The Woodland Edition's interior, however, was marred by the lack of ventilated seats and a dark, claustrophobic feel due to the small rear windows and all-black interior. The second-row captain's chairs offered comfort and flexibility, but their super-long-slide feature compromised third-row space. The Sienna's cargo capacity was impressive, with 33.5 cubic feet behind the third row and up to 101 cubic feet with the third row folded, though the second-row seats were not removable or collapsible. This limited its maximum cargo volume compared to other minivans.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment functions, which, while small by modern standards, was functional and responsive. It offered wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but lacked features like navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Venue's audio system was a basic six-speaker setup, with no premium options available, making it suitable for casual listening rather than high-quality audio experiences.
In contrast, the 2026 Toyota Sienna featured a more advanced technology suite, with a 12.3-inch digital driver display and touchscreen standard on most trims, including the Woodland Edition. The infotainment system included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and multiple connected service plans with trial subscriptions. Optional features like wireless smartphone charging, a JBL premium sound system, and a power inverter added to the Sienna's tech appeal. However, the Toyota Audio Multimedia system's daytime visibility was an issue, and the voice recognition system, while generally effective, occasionally struggled with specific commands.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered a solid set of standard safety features, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver-attention monitor. Higher trims added blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert, though adaptive cruise control was not available. The Venue's safety ratings were mediocre, with a four-star rating from the NHTSA and mixed results from the IIHS, highlighting areas for improvement.
The 2026 Toyota Sienna, equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, provided a comprehensive suite of safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency braking. The Woodland Edition and higher trims also included parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking. Despite these features, the Sienna's safety ratings were mixed, with a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA but lower scores in specific tests. The IIHS ratings were also varied, with a Marginal result in the moderate overlap front-impact test, preventing it from earning a Top Safety Pick award.
