Reviews SummaryBMW offers the 2026 X3 in two flavors: 30 xDrive and M50. The latter is tuned for performance, but the base X3 30 xDrive is so good that you might be happy trading the M50’s outright speed and sheer capability for significant savings. BMW redesigned this compact luxury crossover in 2025, and the only tweaks for 2026 make the base model look and feel a little more upscale inside. Verdict: For this review, we evaluated the BMW X3 M50. It was terrific, but with a sticker price more than $15,000 higher than the rewarding X3 30 xDrive, it’s hard to justify the extra money.
Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2026 BMW X3 presented a sophisticated yet polarizing design. Priced from $67,850, the X3 M50 model we tested was equipped with numerous upgrades, including a striking Frozen Deep Grey paint job and 21-inch wheels, bringing the total to $79,100. While the Amber over Atlas Gray leather interior exuded luxury, the overall austere cabin design struggled to justify the high price tag. BMW's "monolithic" design approach, with its illuminated grille surround, was an acquired taste, and the touch-sensing controls felt cheap. Despite these drawbacks, BMW attempted to enhance the interior with standard artificial leather and upgraded trim for the 2026 model year.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue was a compact crossover SUV with a design leaning more towards a tall hatchback. Its small and narrow appearance, with a bluff nose and standard roof rails, gave it a European flair. The Venue's upright windshield and SUV-like cues, such as black wheel flares and a two-tone roof option, added to its charm. Inside, the Venue offered a simple and functional layout, with a digital instrument cluster and body-color trim accents. However, the small touchscreen and hard plastic surfaces highlighted its budget-friendly nature.

The 2026 BMW X3 M50 was a powerhouse, featuring a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine producing 393 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. This engine delivered exhilarating acceleration, reaching 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. The M50 also boasted performance enhancements like an M Sport rear differential, M Sport brakes, and an Adaptive M suspension. The base X3 30 xDrive, with its 255-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, offered a sprightly performance, achieving 60 mph in six seconds. Both models came standard with all-wheel drive, and the X3 M50's 48-volt mild hybrid system contributed to a fuel economy rating of 27 mpg in combined driving.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue was powered by a modest 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. With a 0-60 mph time of 8.5–8.8 seconds, the Venue was not quick, but its lightweight design made it peppy in city traffic. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) provided smooth city driving but struggled at highway speeds. The Venue's handling benefited from its small size and low weight, making it easy to maneuver in tight spaces. However, the ride could be jiggly on rough roads due to its solid rear axle.
The 2026 BMW X3 offered a spacious and comfortable interior, with heated, power-adjustable front sport seats wrapped in Veganza, BMW's vegan artificial leather. The front seats provided excellent support, while the rear seats were less accommodating due to low cushions and hard plastic frames. The X3 featured a panoramic glass sunroof and generous cargo space, with 31.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 67.1 cubic feet with the seats folded. A temporary spare tire was a practical addition.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue's interior featured cloth and H-Tex seats with manual adjustments. While comfortable, the Venue's front seats lacked power adjustments, and legroom was limited for taller occupants. The rear seat offered just enough space for average-sized adults, but three passengers would find it cramped. The Venue's cargo space was modest, with 18.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 31.9 cubic feet with the seats folded. Cost-cutting was evident in the hard plastic surfaces and lack of sound deadening.
The 2026 BMW X3 featured a BMW Curved Display with a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Premium Package added a head-up display, a 15-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system, and advanced driving assistance systems. The infotainment system ran BMW Operating System 9, offering cloud-based navigation, in-vehicle gaming, and more. However, the system had real-world issues, such as difficulties with Guest mode and occasional glitches with Apple CarPlay.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came with a simple 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment features. While small, it was functional and responsive, offering phone, radio, media, and phone-projection connections. The Venue lacked features like navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot but included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The audio system was a basic six-speaker unit, with no premium option available.
The 2026 BMW X3 was equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and more. The optional Driving Assistance Professional Package added advanced features like lane-centering assist and adaptive cruise control with hands-free traffic jam assist. The X3 received a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered a good set of standard safety features, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist. Higher trims added blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert. However, adaptive cruise control was not available. The Venue received a four-star rating from the NHTSA, and while the IIHS had not released full ratings, it received a "Good" score in the small front overlap test.
