2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Reviews Summary

We reviewed the GLC SUV when it was all-new for the 2023 model year–and available with only one powertrain. AMG variants have rejoined the GLC 300 for 2024, and the GLC Coupe, which was a carryover last year, now catches up with the redesigned GLC SUV. For the purposes of this review, we’ve focused our attention on the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, which we spent a week putting through its paces on our home turf.

Verdict: We suspect the AMG-tuned GLC misses the mark on what most shoppers are looking for in a luxury crossover, but for the right driver, it may very well prove worth the wait. For everyone else, the GLC 300 has everything we feel we have a right to hope for from a sub-$50k Mercedes-Benz.

2024 Acura MDX Reviews Summary

The Acura MDX is a mainstay of the luxury SUV segment, and it covers the bases remarkably well. Its well-rounded nature is perhaps because it shares a platform with the Honda Pilot (another fantastic family hauler) but for that same reason, it doesn’t offer the same cachet as a BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz GLE. Whether you are on a road trip or heading to work, the MDX is comfortable, refined, and has space for the family and their gear. For 2024, there’s a new Type-S trim level, bringing a new level of performance to the three-row, seven-passenger midsize luxury SUV. But as we’ll get into in a bit, the MDX is held back by a maddening infotainment system that could truly be a sticking point to overshadow all other positive attributes.

Verdict: The MDX is a beautiful, safe, and cost-effective luxury SUV, and the new Type-S trim level delivers a higher level of performance. However, it doesn’t offer as much space as some of its competitors, and we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone easily frustrated by finnicky tech interfaces.

Look and feel

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC

8/10

2024 Acura MDX

8/10

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC maintained a familiar aesthetic, opting for subtle updates rather than a complete overhaul. Designers introduced new taillights and repositioned door handles, while the headlights became narrower and more aggressive. The rear end saw a redesign with a trim piece connecting the taillights and a more pronounced trunk. The GLC Coupe retained its signature fastback roofline, distinguishing it from the SUV variant. Inside, the GLC exuded luxury with its two-tone leather upholstery and optional wood-and-metal dash treatment. The interior was gadget-heavy, featuring numerous screens, buttons, and ambient lighting, making it a class leader in terms of technology and opulence.

In contrast, the 2024 Acura MDX presented a modern and refined exterior with a large shield grille and rakish headlights. The interior was high-tech but cluttered, with a busy center console. The MDX offered several trims, each adding unique features. The Type-S Advance package, which was reviewed, included a 26-speaker ELS sound system and massaging front seats. The MDX's cabin was comfortable, with perforated leather upholstery and a focus on passenger comfort. While the Mercedes-Benz GLC's interior was more luxurious, the MDX excelled in providing a comfortable and feature-rich environment.

Performance

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC

7/10

2024 Acura MDX

9/10

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 was powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing an impressive 416 horsepower, surpassing the previous generation's V6. The engine was complemented by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, enhancing performance. The GLC 300, on the other hand, offered 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The GLC 43 featured a nine-speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission, providing faster shifts and better torque handling. However, the performance suspension resulted in a firmer ride, making it less suitable for daily commuting.

The 2024 Acura MDX Type-S Advance was equipped with a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, delivering 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. The 10-speed automatic transmission ensured smooth power delivery, and the Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive System enhanced traction. The MDX Type-S featured Brembo performance brakes and an adaptive air suspension, providing a comfortable ride. The Integrated Dynamics System offered various driving modes, including Sport and Comfort, allowing drivers to tailor the driving experience. The MDX excelled in providing a refined and comfortable ride, with a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds.

Form and function

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC

7/10

2024 Acura MDX

8/10

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC's cabin was driver-focused, with controls angled towards the driver. The front seats offered heat and memory functions, with optional ventilation and heated rear seats. The GLC SUV provided 21.9 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 59.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The GLC Coupe offered 17.6 cubic feet of cargo volume, expanding to 52.6 cubic feet. The power-folding rear seats added convenience, although the Coupe's cargo space was limited compared to the SUV.

The 2024 Acura MDX featured three rows of seating, with the first two rows offering comfort and support. The third row was smaller, suitable for children. The MDX provided 16.3 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 71.4 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. The Type-S Advance model included a fold-down center console in the second row, enhancing passenger comfort. The center console offered ample storage space, although the center stack of controls was cluttered. The MDX's interior was practical, with plenty of cupholders and storage options.

Technology

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC

8/10

2024 Acura MDX

6/10

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC featured an 11.9-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen running the MBUX infotainment system. The system included a responsive voice command feature, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Exclusive trim added navigation and a 15-speaker Burmester sound system, while the Pinnacle trim included a head-up display and augmented reality navigation. The GLC's infotainment system was user-friendly, with advanced features enhancing the driving experience.

The 2024 Acura MDX's infotainment system was less intuitive, relying on a touchpad for control. The 12.3-inch display was not a touchscreen, making navigation cumbersome. However, the MDX offered wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration. The vehicle included multiple USB ports, a digital instrument panel, and wireless charging. Despite the clumsy interface, the MDX's feature set was comprehensive, with thoughtful details like the touchpad/charging pad packaging.
