2023 Dodge Hornet Reviews Summary

The Hornet is introduced as a compact utility vehicle, or CUV. This would seem to suggest that “compact” and “sport” are mutually exclusive (no shade on Dodge; they didn’t coin the term). But the Hornet defies that with its emphasis on power, attitude, and in-crowd fun.

Yes, the Hornet is also notable in that the 2024-model-year hybrid R/T is Dodge’s first electrified performance vehicle. But every automaker has—or will soon have to have—its own first electrified model. That in itself is these days remarkable only internally. However, we would argue that the Hornet represents a gateway with influence far outside the company as well: It creates a previously nonexistent pathway for the type of consumers the Dodge brand targets, who will now be able to take the step toward electrification without sacrificing their street cred.

2024 Chevrolet Trax Reviews Summary

The Trax was launched for the 2015 model year as a no-frills subcompact crossover, designed to serve as basic transportation at an affordable cost. However, the Trax moldered in showrooms without any significant updates until the 2022 model year—when it was discontinued altogether.

But now the Trax is back in totally revamped, second-generation form. It's as big of a reimagining as you'll likely ever see in a car like this. The new Trax is bigger than before, more effort has been put into its styling, and Chevy has added the tech features that have become the norm since the original Trax was launched. Still the entry-level model in Chevy's lineup, the Trax sits below the Chevy Trailblazer, and takes aim at the Hyundai Venue and Nissan Kicks, but it was also designed to retain owners of discontinued small cars like the Chevy Cruze, Sonic, and Spark, bridging the gap between car and crossover.

The redesigned 2024 Trax launches in LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ trim levels. We sampled 2RS and Activ models on roads around Asheville, North Carolina.

2023 Dodge Hornet

8/10

2024 Chevrolet Trax

8/10
The 2023 Dodge Hornet introduced itself as a defiant compact utility vehicle (CUV), blending power, attitude, and the allure of in-crowd fun into a compact frame. It represented Dodge's initial leap into electrified performance, marking a significant, if not unique, milestone within the automotive industry. The Hornet was more than just a car; it was a statement, offering Dodge's target consumers a path towards electrification without compromising their street credibility. Conversely, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax made a triumphant return, completely reimagined and significantly larger than its predecessor. With an emphasis on modern styling, enhanced technology, and affordability, the Trax aimed to bridge the gap between traditional cars and crossovers, targeting a demographic that values practicality without sacrificing aesthetics.

2024 Chevrolet Trax

8/10
The Hornet's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine delivers best-in-class performance with 268 horsepower, making it a standout in the CUV category for those seeking power and presence. The Trax, with its new 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, offers adequate power for its class and an improved fuel economy, though it doesn't match the Hornet's performance capabilities.
Form and function

2023 Dodge Hornet

8/10

2024 Chevrolet Trax

8/10

The 2023 Dodge Hornet impresses with its comfortable leather seats available in the GT Plus trim, offering superior comfort with four-way powered lumbar adjustment and heated and ventilated options. The driver-oriented cockpit layout, with its emphasis on performance, centers the screen and control placement on the driver. The Hornet’s emphasis is on performance-driven design and seating comfort.

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax has made significant strides in maximizing its interior space following its redesign. While overall larger, the increase in dimensions has led to three more inches of rear-seat legroom and a slight increase in front-seat legroom. However, first-row headroom remains unchanged, and second-row headroom has slightly decreased. The interior of the Trax is designed to comfortably accommodate passengers, with nearly identical passenger space to its main rivals. The Trax shines in cargo capacity, offering 25.6 cubic feet of space with the rear seats in place and expanding to 54.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, reflecting a 12% increase over its predecessor. This expanded luggage capacity makes the Trax a practical choice for those valuing space and utility in their vehicle.
