2022 Genesis GV70 Reviews SummaryHyundai’s Genesis luxury brand has only been around for about five years, but it’s progressed so much in that time it seems like much longer than that. Genesis has quickly gone from selling two repurposed Hyundai sedans to fielding a full lineup of luxury cars and creating a distinct identity through bold design. The 2022 Genesis GV70 is the brand’s latest effort. Not to be confused with the Genesis G70 sedan, the GV70 is a crossover SUV positioned below the recently-launched Genesis GV80 in size and price, meaning it competes with the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Volvo XC60, and numerous other small luxury SUVs. As with the larger GV80 and the Genesis sedans, the challenge for the GV70 will be convincing new-car buyers to abandon familiar nameplates for something they might not have heard of. The GV70 launches with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and optional 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. The four-cylinder is available with Standard, Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige trim levels, while the V6 engine is available with all trim levels except the Select. Our test car was a GV70 3.5T, a range-topping AWD Sport Prestige model with the 3.5-liter V6.
2023 Jeep Compass Reviews SummaryIf ever a perfect name for a Jeep existed, Compass is it. Just like they do Jeeps, people use compasses to get wherever they're going. Now, the company synonymous with SUVs has upgraded its small crossover to get you to your destination faster. A new turbocharged engine is standard in the 2023 Jeep Compass, resolving one of the major complaints we've had about this model since, well, forever. In addition, the 2023 Compass now has standard all-wheel drive, gets a more sophisticated transmission, and has additional safety features.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 boasted a distinctive design that set it apart from its Genesis siblings, despite sharing some styling cues. It featured quad LED strips for headlights and taillights, a prominent shield-shaped grille, and a sloping roofline that lent it a fastback silhouette. The ribbed detailing added a muscular touch, blending SUV bulk with sleek, car-like elements. The Sport Prestige model further enhanced its character with unique styling features, including a model-specific front fascia, 21-inch wheels with a web pattern, and dark chrome trim. Inside, the GV70's interior was inspired by an airplane wing's cross-section, with an elliptical theme and minimalistic design. The cabin offered a variety of color options and luxurious materials, such as Nappa leather upholstery with suede inserts, although base models came with leatherette seats.
In contrast, the 2023 Jeep Compass adopted a more refined and upscale design, moving away from the rugged Jeep aesthetic. It shared design elements with larger Jeep models like the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. The Compass Sport and Latitude models received new 17-inch wheel designs, while the Trailhawk's wheels were painted gloss black. The Compass was available in five core trim levels, with special editions like the Altitude, Red, and High Altitude. Our Limited test vehicle featured Granite Crystal paint, multi-spoke 19-inch wheels, and a two-tone black and gray cabin with caramel accents. The interior exuded sophistication with digital displays, metallic trim, and low-gloss plastics, though the high price tag raised questions about its value.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 offered two engine options: a base 2.5-liter turbo-four engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 generating 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive (AWD). The GV70 also featured a rear electronic limited-slip differential and launch control, emphasizing its sporty character. The Sport+ drive mode sharpened throttle response and held high revs, but the GV70's chassis felt heavy and lacked the sharpness of competitors like the Acura RDX and BMW X3. While it excelled on highways, the firm ride and lack of solidity detracted from its luxury appeal.
The 2023 Jeep Compass introduced a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. This engine was mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a standard Jeep Active Drive AWD system. The Compass offered Selec-Terrain with three driving modes, while the Trailhawk variant featured a more advanced AWD system with a low range and Rock mode. The new engine transformed the Compass from underpowered to capable, though it prioritized fuel economy over power. The Compass achieved an EPA rating of 27 mpg in combined driving, but our test averaged 23.8 mpg. While the Compass improved in performance, it remained tall and narrow, affecting its handling on uneven surfaces.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 provided mid-pack interior space for its segment. It offered comparable front-seat headroom to the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and back-seat headroom to the BMW X3. Cargo space measured 28.9 cubic feet with the rear seats in place and 56.9 cubic feet with them folded. The interior design, while daring, compromised storage space, with limited room in the center console and door pockets. The Sport Prestige model featured heavily bolstered front seats with heating, ventilation, massage, and posture-assist functions, though some controls were buried in touchscreen menus.
The 2023 Jeep Compass accommodated adults comfortably in both rows, despite its narrow design. Standard features included an air filtration system and available dual-zone climate control. Cloth upholstery was standard, with leather seats available on higher trims. The Limited test vehicle offered a premium interior with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and power-adjustable seats. Rear-seat space was adequate, with generous foot room and supportive seat cushions. Cargo space measured 27.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 59.8 cubic feet with them folded. The Compass also featured a wireless smartphone charging pad and adjustable load floor for added convenience.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 impressed with its tech offerings, featuring a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system's tile-based layout and glass rotary controller were user-friendly. Higher trims offered a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12-inch head-up display. The GV70 also included a digital-key feature, fingerprint scanner, and advanced rear-seat monitors. Genesis Connected Services provided remote camera activation and other features for three years.
The 2023 Jeep Compass came equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Uconnect 5 technology. It supported wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM services. The system offered over-the-air updates and paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrumentation panel. Our Limited test vehicle included an Alpine premium sound system, Alexa Built-in, and a parking assist system. The surround-view camera proved useful, though the parking assist was less necessary due to the Compass's size.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 came standard with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, blind-spot and forward collision-avoidance assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also featured eight airbags, including a front-center airbag. Optional features included Highway Driving Assist 2 with lane-change functionality. While crash-test ratings were unavailable, the GV70's safety tech impressed during testing.
The 2023 Jeep Compass added a drowsy driver detection system and rear-seat reminder for 2023. Standard safety features included forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Available upgrades included adaptive cruise control and Highway Assist. Our Compass Limited featured Highway Assist, which performed well in most conditions. Crash-test ratings were incomplete, but the Compass had previously earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.
