The 2007 Pontiac G6 is one of the most customizable vehicles on the market today.
The Pontiac G6 is offered in three body styles, with three engines, and two transmissions. Add that to a laundry list of standalone options and packages, and the car is one of the most customizable vehicles on the market today. The G6 is offered as a mid-sized sedan, as a coupe, and as a hardtop convertible.
Pontiac is offering the G6 in three trim levels for the 2007 model year: base/Special Value, GT, and GTP. The Pontiac G6 GT model is offered as a sedan, coupe, or convertible, while the GTP trim is offered in sedan and coupe configurations only.
The Pontiac G6 is targeted at new-car buyers that want a value-conscious car with a comfortable ride and a wide variety of available features. It competes with the Mazda 6, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima.

The Pontiac G6 features smooth styling with clean lines and attractive curves. In all of its forms, the G6’s proportions and stance are scaled just right for the size of the car. The convertible and two-door coupe models have a dramatically sloped roof and frameless doors that accentuate their styling.
The car’s cabin is attractive and welcoming. It’s decidedly more upscale than Pontiacs of generations past, and as a result, there are far fewer wobbly buttons, cheap plastics, and creaky interior bits. Buttons and controls mounted on the dash are handsomely finished and feature chrome surrounds that up the luxury feel considerable. The front seats are nicely bolstered and are comfortable despite being designed for sporty driving.

The Pontiac G6 gracefully walks the line between sporty and smooth. The base 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 169 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The available 3.5-liter V6 makes 224 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque, and the range-topping 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 252 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard across the line. The standard four-speed automatic transmission is a good match for the first two engines, finding its gear and staying there until the timing is absolutely right for a shift. The optional six-speed automatic is every bit as good, and pairs well with the 3.6-liter V6.
Thanks to its GM Epsilon platform's long wheelbase, the G6’s ride is quiet, comfortable, and composed, while also being surprisingly fun to drive. The car is responsive and the suspension has been tuned for comfort while also keeping the car tidy when the road gets curvy. Nicely weighted power steering, a reasonable traction control system, and a comfy steering wheel make the G6 a great car for longer drives, as driver fatigue is minimized.

One of the G6’s biggest selling points is its ability to fill multiple roles. Buyers seeking a comfortable family sedan won’t be disappointed, while those wanting a relatively sporty experience will also get what they’re looking for. Well-padded front bucket seats and a spacious back seat make the G6 sedan ideal for families and road trips, while the coupe and convertible work well for young buyers, with the optional rear bucket seats. The driver's seat offers a good level of adjustability to find a comfortable driving position.
The G6 Convertible was developed in partnership with a company called Karmann, which has built droptop models for Volkswagen and others over the years. As a result, the top’s operation and engineering are smooth and quick. From start to finish, the retractable hardtop can be raised or lowered in under 30 seconds and stows itself neatly away in the trunk when in the down position. That greatly reduces trunk space from an already small 5.8 cubic feet to a miniscule 1.8 cubic feet.
Head room and leg room are more than acceptable in sedan models, but the coupe and convertible will be tight for taller people. The optional sunroof cuts into head room even further. Though it's roomy, buyers with families might need to consider an SUV.

Standard tech in the 2007 G6 includes an AM/FM stereo with CD player, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, and cruise control. The car can be optioned with SiriusXM satellite radio, a 200-watt Monsoon sound system, power windows, a remote starter system, a subwoofer, OnStar, and a radio data system. The Pontiac’s straightforward layout and clean interior make for a simple and intuitive experience. All buttons, knobs, and controls are exactly where they’re expected to be, and are sized and labeled to be easy to use when the vehicle is in motion.
The G6’s quiet ride and peaceful interior work to boost the stereo’s effectiveness. Sound is clear, bass is undistorted, and the speed-sensitive volume system works well. Even with the available panoramic roof, the car’s interior sound levels stay at reasonable levels.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2007 Pontiac G6 its top "good" rating in moderate-overlap front crash testing, "acceptable" in side crash tests, and "marginal" for its head restraints and seats. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rated the G6 five stars in front driver-side crash tests, four stars in front passenger-side crash tests, five stars in side crash tests, and four stars in rollover resistance.
Standard safety equipment includes front seatbelt pretensioners, daytime running lights, an engine immobilizer, front and rear head airbags, dusk sensing headlights, four-wheel disc brakes, and an interior trunk emergency release. Available features include fog lights, stability control, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, and an electronic brake-force distribution system.

The G6 is offered in a stripped-down base model for just $17,245 before destination, taxes, or options; stepping up to get basic features like cruise control bumps the price to $18,800. GT Sedan models start at $22,380, while the GT Convertible starts at $28,750. The GTP Sedan starts at $24,650 and the GTP Coupe’s MSRP lands at $24,450.
Similar to other General Motors vehicles, the Pontiac can be customized in a number of ways, so choosing a cheaper trim level doesn’t necessarily mean buyers are stuck with that trim’s feature set. That said, Pontiac held back what are generally considered basic features for added-cost packages and trim levels.
Gas mileage is competitive, especially given the breadth of choice in the G6 lineup. With the four-cylinder engine and an automatic gearbox, the G6 delivers EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20/30/24 mpg city/hwy/combined. The 3.5-liter V6 engine and four-speed automatic deliver fuel economy of 18/28/21 mpg and the 3.6-liter engine lands at 17/26/21 mpg.
If we were in the market for a G6 today, we'd opt for the mid-range GT trim. The V6 powertrain is much better for daily driving, and the available six-speed automatic gearbox is a much better match for the engine. The GT trim is also available as a convertible for top-down driving, and the available G6 Coupe is arguably the best looking model of the bunch.

This is my second Pontiac G6 GT Hardtop Convertible. 1st one is a 2007 at 170K miles with no major issues other than normal maintenance. I hit a dear in it, totaled the car but didnt even crack the radiator. Bought it back from insurance, husband fixed it and still on the road 4-1/2 years later! Bought the 2009 with low miles because I love the car! Best car I have ever owned!!! They need to bring Pontiac back to the market!!!!!!May 14, 2021

Nothing to gripe about except it gets a bad rap from the recall issues of other GM vehicles of the era. This one was built right and only had the one minor fix of tail light wiring. Nice power and a hoot to drive!May 02, 2015

Appearance: This car is very pretty, sporty, nice wheels, sunroof, etc.
Build quality: Solid car! , V6 power, smooth ride, air conditioning working very good, great sound system, comfortable seats.
Performance: V6 and 4 speed auto transmission works very well on this car, it is fun to drive, driving up the mountain with out issues. I feel safe driving it. Jan 04, 2015

I liked how the gas and brake pedals could be adjusted forward or backward, and for a small engine it beat most cars off the stoplight when needed. It held its color well and never needed much maintenance. Great for Dad's car.Mar 26, 2014

I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a sporty, reliable sedan at a lower price. Never had any issues with the car other than the steering wheel controls were not aligned right and I couldn't get them back in place, but they still worked.Jan 29, 2013

Good space for adults in the back, even when front seat is pushed back, the carpets and leather seats have held up great through 4.5 years of a family of 4. We have had no trouble mechanically or electronically, love the power of the manual transmission, won't go back to an automatic. Apr 09, 2012

Love the appearance and functionality of the convertible. Good pick-up and fun to drive. Top mechanism works very nicely and is well made. Would be nice if gas mileage were better, but it has a 3.9 V6. Low maintenance. Interior comfortable with leather. Great sound system/speakers. Trunk has lots of room when the top is up, so it is good to haul stuff. Rear passenger seats are comfortable and good for people and pets (small/med dogs).Sep 29, 2010

I love my car =] It drives so smooth and it's a perfect car for an 18 year old. It has great gas mileage and it's a very safe car for teens. It's low in insurance and cheap to repair. The sound in the speakers is great, great bass without a system. It's fast, very roomy in the back and front for a coupe. All my friends are very comfortable with sitting in the back. Feb 21, 2010

They car is ok. Performance is pretty good. Gets great gas mileage. The car is pretty fun to drive. The appearance to me is ugly. Not the front just the rear end. It is like they forgot to design the rear end. Cost of ownership is very low. I fill my gas tank maybe once every 2 weeks. I get about 275 in the city and 400 on the highway.Sep 21, 2009

performance- Awesome for a v6, braking is excellent, and the steering you can do with one finger.
Buld quality- My mirror flaps have broken off but that is the only thing that has broken so far :)
Appearance- Black leather on the inside and shiny black on the outside.
Cost- I can last about 5-6 days on a full tank.

Interior Room is lacking, especially for tall folks. Acceleration from stop and passing is far above the competition. I bought the car in September of 2007 and have had 0 repairs since. The L/S sunvisor vanity mirror cover was replaced under warranty. A bit fuelish, MPG runs around 18-22.May 14, 2009

Monsoon sound is incredible. 3 speakers in each door & 2 subs in the back. This car can pick up so much speed without you knowing! Love the way she handles and the seats fit my small frame perfectly. It is a practical everyday driver with a lot of pep. Very sporty and fun to drive has enough power to compete with the German competition, & ricers have no chance against this savage. The 0-60 time is impressive but it is the 70-100+ that makes the car smashing.May 06, 2008

It looks good, 4 doors for family practicability (two older teens that actually fit in the back seat), actually ready to merge or pass when on the freeway (V-6), Metallic Gray, black interior... Yeah, I'd rather a BMW or an Infinity G37 or some other big dollar car, but two kids about to go into collage, and mortgage to boot - I'll be practical and affordable and STILL drive a sexy looking car.

This is my fourth Pontiac. I actually wanted a BMW, but I can't afford it yet. Rather have some extra cash then working for my car... know what I mean? Anyhow, I love my car. It's easy to maintain, easy to drive and comfortable for my daily commute or those drives to visit family.
Having a V-6, as opposed to my Pontiac Grand AM which had a 4 cylinder, gets up and boogies. No worries about merging onto the freeway, or passing when I need to. It's get decent gas mileage.Mar 23, 2008

When your car is in the shop for two months and you work for a rental car company... life is good. This was the first of my many rides over the months. The G6 was great, it's a smooth and comfortable ride, yet, it has a lot of get up and go (the impracticle side). I was able to take this from Edmonton, Alberta, to Los Angeles, California with no problems. It heated up pretty good along the desert stretches but overall performed very well.Jan 17, 2008

This is a good stylish car by GM. It looks smaller than it is which says alot for the design. There's more than enough room inside for 4 adults, though storage space is limited. the3.5 V6 power is more than enough for the city and highway though its no dragster. Fuel economy is ok i usually see around 18/27. Reliability has been great so far with over 22,000 miles. not very sporty but it can do curves and steering is a lot better than say a Toyota Camry. Could be a little more refined over bumps but it never feels giggly or unstable and the ride is never harsh. visibility isn't good so watch out and the trunk pop is poorly designed. I was thrilled with this car for the first 30K miles. The honey moon is over now.
The Good: the car is inexpensive to purchase, to own and to insure. My car has the 2.4L, I do a lot of highway driving and it does fine, a little underpowered on steep hills, but I live in south Texas so thats not really an issue for me. The car is a very pretty car, the exterior is well styled.
The Bad: The interior is made of cheap plastic pieces, not unlike most new cars. The fuse box cover is attached with velcro, no screws, no little poppy things, just two strips of velcro superglued to the cover that stick to the carpet. The pull handles on the door panels (not the door handle) have faded to a lovely shade of grey on all of the doors except the driver door. No one has ever sat in the back left seat but even that handle is discolored.
The Ugly: This is a really pretty car, but I do a have a few issues. The chrome belt moldings are just water collection devices, they collect the water during a wash or a rain and they gradually leak it out so you always have a long water spot, the body side moldings do the same thing, but a little faster, you can usually stand there with a towel long enough to get the water wiped up. The only way I have found to fix this is to get an air hose blower and blow the water out from the moldings and the center brake light in the deck lid.
I went a little heavy on the bad stuff, but for the price this is a decent car, I just expected a little too much from GM.Dec 16, 2007

I got my 2007 G6 in January 07. I am so pleased. I had been eyeing the G6 since it came out. I finally was able to purchase it (Smiling). My former car was a Pontiac Sunfire.
It looks INCREDIBLE and drives like a dream. The gas mileage is incredible. The only thing negative that I have to say about it is the headrests in the rear are kind of a nuisance when looking in your rear view mirror. I'll survive :)

brake squeal until i turn the wheel
so, i have a bit of wobble from the front passenger side that i'm attesting to a slightly bent rim. but i replaced the rotor in that corner a few days ago. yesterday, i'm out driving, and suddenly my brakes start squealing out of nowhere on that side. until i turned the wheel. when i turned the wheel, it'd stop screaming at me, then when straight again, it would. this happen for about 5 minutes. then stopped. I'm planning a 2k mile drive from ohio to texas and i can't risk anything going wonky on me. what could've caused it?
