A fastback-inspired sports coupe for the average consumer that won't leave your wallet out to dry, the 2005 Hyundai Tiburon gets exterior updates and new trim designations this year. The front-wheel drive coupe is now available as a base GS, with a 2.0-liter, 138-hp I4 engine and choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed shiftable automatic. The GT is a holdover from last year, with a 2.7-liter, 172-hp V6 and the same transmission choices. The SE option package form last year is now a trim, with the same V6 engine and a new 6-speed manual with a new shifter knob.
All trims comes with the full power setup, dual front airbags, 4-wheel disc brakes, and dual exhaust pipes. All have a rear spoiler, which grows as you move from the GS through the GT into the SE. Wheels also get larger, with 16-inch for the GT and 17-inch for the SE. On the outside, the 2005 Hyundai Tiburon is much sleeker, with a sharply sloped windshield and roofline leading to a high back end. New front and rear lamps, a new grille, new mirrors and foglights, and a flashy horizontal body-length indent, and three gills behind the front wheels make the Tiburon look more expensive than it is. Though the interior is tight, especially in the back, the rear seats do split-fold 50/50, opening onto a spacious 14.7 cubic foot trunk.
The 2006 Tiburon earns four and five-star crash ratings, but ABS is only optional with the GT and SE, and traction control is not offered. Leather seats are an option on the GT, which already comes with leather trim, and the SE steps up the features with an MP3 player and aluminum pedals. Drivers are amazed at how much you get at an affordable price, and say the Tiburon is fun to drive, with smooth handling and an eye-catching new appearance. Some downsides include the fuel economy, though it's about normal for a sports coupe. Drivers also dislike the understeer, the lack of rear leg and headroom, and the tendency for road noise.

The car is a nice little sporty car for beginner drivers since it looks an old feels like a fast car when its really lower end in HP so more fitting for everyday city cruzer. Its an easy to maintain car and parts may be rare to find but they are very reliable cars.Jan 09, 2023

The only time I've ever had this car in the shop is for basic maintenance & upkeep, it has never once let me down! Even after I got into a head on collision, my car still ran & was drivable. This is the only car I've ever owned that I actually love & will ever want to drive. I still have yet to find a newer vehicle that even compares to the Tiburon.May 05, 2015

Eh, its a nice car that is fairly cheap and still very fast for its time even though its low on horsepower, it can still pick up speed rather rapidly from 40 to 120 or when in traffic from 60 to 120 rather quick.Aug 15, 2014

What I like about this car it's its turbo engine, so powerful and it makes me look cool and young. It doesn't cost that much for gas usage. But the only thing I dislike about it is that it's too little for the whole family to fit in. Also i feel comfortable driving my new born in it.May 10, 2014

For a first car it really did me justice. I'm 19 and have had it for 3 years. It has not a single time broke down on me. Other than the usual tune ups (break pads, oil, rotors) I have had no serious repairs needed. The exhaust note is nice and deep and i always receive complements on the looks and sound. Its not seriously fast but for the cost it does its job. The only true thing that i can think of over the years that was annoying was the fact that there is virtually no room in the back for friends etc. For a first car to cruise around town with its seriously great.Aug 27, 2013

The 2005 year was refresh year for the Tiburon and in my opinion the minimum
year anyone should have, The new headlights, taillights and interior are must
haves. The car is a bit underpowered in stock form. I have added performance
spark plugs and wires, an Injen Cold Air Intake, a Magnaflow HiFlow Cat, and a
Borla Catback exhaust and it seems to be the right amount of power now. I
have upgraded the brakes so it is much better at stoping but not a problem
stock, build quality is much improved and very nice, Cost of ownership is low,

Steering/handling is superb. Pick-up is average for a 4cyl. Braking is good for a sports car. No major repairs on this car. Styling is a head-turner/eye-catcher. Interior is well designed. Should of been a 2-seater. Trunk is spacious. Gas mileage is rated 22C/30H. I get 21mpg on average. Since i bought the car used, had to get the spoiler repainted andthe hood struts replaced. cost was $250 altogether. Love my car!!Oct 04, 2010

It's accelerations is very good, braking is not bad, and handling is more on the understeering side when making super sharp turns, the build is good and has an awesome appearance. the mileage for the car is average. And this car is fun to drive.May 12, 2010

If your looking for a car to own... A 2005 Hyundai Tiburon GT can do the trick for you. Its a front wheel drive coupe what has some go. A 176 HP V-6 The throttle repose is great. 18-24 CITY and 24-30 HWY I average about 21-22 city and I have averaged as much as 30 on HWYJun 28, 2009

I keep my stuff real clean. I'm getting the lambo doors on soon. And I'm going to get black rims and blacked out tinted windows. It hasn't needed any repairs just oil changes. I'm redoing my interior, I'm going to have red accent lights. Everything all the cloth is going to be black with red lining. I'm going to have red vents pretty much anything that is silver red. I get about 28 miles to the gallon on the GT V6. All my performance is good, good fast car to race.Aug 28, 2008

Beautiful, that's the best way to describe my car. Moonlit blue, fully loaded with a 440 watt ten inch sub, 6 disc/cassette, Auto A/C, black leather with red stitching, I could keep going... I got it brand new (32 miles on the odometer) listed at $23,000. It was supposed to get 19 city and 26 highway mpg, (the best I've gotten was 25, and I won't say the worst haha) I've never had to do any mantainance other than regular oil and filter changes, 6 month tire rotations, and a few upgrades.

Fun: Lots of fun to drive (even if it's FWD), Great

Why wont my 05 Hyundai Tiburon Start?
I have a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon. Last week it started just fine. Now suddenly the car wont start or even turn over. The flashlights and all the the other regular interior lights turn on and stay on, but the car does not start or run. Any ideas? There is a very faint clicking but other than that there is nothing.
