Key things to evaluate:
- Fuel efficiency: Driven on the usual testing loop, unloaded, in two-wheel-drive, with just a driver aboard, our truck’s 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 averaged 15.4 mpg. During a full week of driving with heavy highway use, that average improved to 16.5 mpg.
- Safety package: adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: an 8-inch touchscreen running the automaker’s Sync 3 infotainment system, with smartphone integration, wireless smartphone charging, a navigation system, FordPass Connect services including a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and a B&O premium sound system.
Which Ford F-350 Super Duty trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford F-350 Super Duty offers these trims:
- XL: The work-focused starting point, with the broad capability and body-style choices that define the lineup.
- XLT: A practical step up that adds more everyday usability while keeping the truck’s core heavy-duty mission intact.
- Lariat: The best-value trim for many shoppers, since it balances strong equipment with the truck’s serious towing and hauling ability.
- King Ranch: Adds higher-end décor and a more upscale cabin feel.
- Platinum: Brings a more luxury-oriented presentation with premium cabin details.
- Limited: The top trim, with plush leather, a high-end audio system, power-deploying running boards, and the most upscale cabin treatment in the lineup.
What Ford F-350 Super Duty do most buyers choose?
The Ford F-350 Super Duty years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 2,607 | 27.9% |
| 2024 | 2,458 | 28.6% |
| 2025 | 2,379 | 29.2% |
| 2022 | 1,882 | 27.8% |
| 2021 | 1,733 | 28.2% |
| 2020 | 1,346 | 28.2% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you the broadest selection of listings and a strong mix of pricing and deal availability. That makes it easier to compare trucks and find the configuration that fits your needs.
What is the Ford F-350 Super Duty's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $72,451 | −13.39% |
| 2019 | $41,074 | −8.71% |
| 2020 | $45,165 | −7.46% |
| 2018 | $37,439 | −6.86% |
| 2024 | $67,306 | −6.75% |
| 2023 | $60,390 | −5.62% |
| 2014 | $26,255 | −5.25% |
| 2016 | $31,126 | −4.99% |
| 2022 | $54,326 | −4.41% |
| 2017 | $38,143 | −4.19% |
| 2015 | $28,315 | −3.54% |
| 2021 | $49,327 | −3.41% |
The table shows broad year-over-year price declines across every listed model year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want more room to negotiate. The steepest drops are concentrated in the newer years, while the smaller declines are clustered among older trucks. That pattern suggests recent-model buyers may find especially attractive pricing shifts right now.
The 2021, 2015, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Ford F-350 Super Duty safe?
- 2021: 7/10
- 2020: 9/10
The 2021 model includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, and rear cross-traffic alert.
For the safest used buy, the 2020 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Ford F-350 Super Duty now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −13.39% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −6.75%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 29.2% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 28.6%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $60,390. The Ford F-350 Super Duty offers serious towing and hauling strength, plus the kind of cabin space and configuration breadth that make it easy to tailor to work or personal use.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Since the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) doesn’t provide fuel-economy estimates for heavy-duty pickups, let’s first address the F-350’s efficiency. Driven on the usual testing loop, unloaded, in two-wheel-drive, with just a driver aboard, our truck’s 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 averaged 15.4 mpg. During a full week of driving with heavy highway use, that average improved to 16.5 mpg.
- Tech: an 8-inch touchscreen running the automaker’s Sync 3 infotainment system, smartphone integration, wireless smartphone charging, a navigation system, FordPass Connect services including a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and a B&O premium sound system from Bang & Olufsen.
- Safety: adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Main concern was low mileage and upgrading from 1/2 ton to 3/4 or 1 ton for towing RV across the country. My F-150 was capable but had high miles and showed its towing limitations on long trips and in mountainous terrain. This is an XL trim line but has the STX and off road package and as a 1 ton has power and suspension capability to spare for towing our 23’ couples coach through the Rockies. Ride is much stiffer and steering ratio is slightly different than the 1/2 ton but nothing I can’t get used to. I plan on putting aftermarket shocks on to civilize the ride a bit. My F-150 had a more car-like feel overall but the F-350 is definitely a TRUCK and feels like it. Still, this particular vehicle had the exact cab and bed configuration I wanted and I feel very confident embarking on a month long, coast to coast camping adventure.

I didn't purchase this truck. It doesn't have what I was looking for in a f-350.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford F-350 Super Duty stands out as a serious heavy-duty pickup that was redesigned from the ground up for its current generation. It pairs a beefy frame with heavier-hitting powertrains, including a new 6.8-liter gas V8 and a high-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V8 with 1,200 pound-feet of torque. Ford also made four-wheel drive the default for more models, while still offering rear-wheel-drive XL, XLT, and Lariat versions, and the truck keeps the regular, SuperCab, and crew cab body styles along with six-and-three-quarter- or eight-foot beds.
This generation is especially notable for how much technology Ford built into it. Even the base truck comes with an 8.0-inch infotainment screen, a 5G WiFi hotspot, and software with fleet management and telematics apps, while higher trims add a 12.0-inch display and a configurable 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster. It also offers useful towing aids such as onboard scales, a trailer-aware surround-view monitoring system, tailgate-down backup cameras and sensing units, trailer navigation, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, and Pro Trailer hitch. Those features make the F-350 easier to live with and easier to tow with than a bare-bones work truck.
Its appeal is rooted in capability, but it is still a big truck with big-truck compromises. The most extreme configurations can tow up to 38,000 pounds and carry as much as 7,344 pounds of payload, yet most models fall well below those peaks. The lineup also stretches from work-focused XL models to luxury-oriented King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims, giving buyers a wide range of personalities.
