How much does the 2025 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices have softened 2.32% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 412 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 a good car?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 earns an expert rating of 7.8/10.

The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

It is described as an affordable two-door sports coupe that delivers plenty of fun without demanding a huge budget, and it is meant for buyers who want something entertaining rather than merely practical. The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, and the technology is outdated.

The GR86’s appeal is strongest if you want cheap thrills, good looks, and the option of a manual transmission. Good and great deals account for 34.2% of listings, which suggests you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The GR86 is positioned as a simple, driver-focused sports coupe, and its appeal comes from that straightforward formula rather than complexity. The expert review also notes that it is comfortable on a twisty mountain road and usable for weekend errands, which points to a car that can handle regular use without losing its fun factor.

Its performance character is reinforced by a rear-wheel-drive layout, a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, and a chassis tuned for handling. Toyota also includes scheduled maintenance coverage for two years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership hassle.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is still a sports car, so wear from spirited driving matters more than it would on a typical commuter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard. Focus on overall condition, because a sports coupe like this can hide more wear than a casual commuter car. Pay extra attention to signs of abuse, curb rash, and interior wear that might suggest frequent spirited use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim uses cloth seats, while the Premium and Hakone special edition get Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats. The Premium and Hakone Edition also add blind-spot monitoring, which is a meaningful safety gap versus the base model.
• Powertrain: The GR86 uses a 2.4-liter boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The automatic is quicker to shift, but the manual is the better fit if you want the most engaging version.
• Safety package: Every GR86 gets forward collision warning, pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, and the adaptive cruise control does not have stop-and-go functionality.
• Infotainment: The GR86 uses an eight-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The system is basic, there is no native navigation, and the interface can feel dated.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic is rated at 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The manual is rated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Premium, and Hakone Edition.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and can live without blind-spot monitoring. You still get the core GR86 formula: rear-wheel drive, a manual-transmission option, strong handling, and the full set of standard driver-assistance features.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring and upgrades the cabin with Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort, safety, and enthusiast appeal, this is the one to target.
• Hakone Edition: This is the special-edition choice if you want the most distinctive look and a more premium presentation. It adds the Ridge Green exterior treatment and bronze wheels, while keeping the same core GR86 driving character.

Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so the base trim is the one with the biggest safety-package gap.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

The market looks moderately favorable if you are a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 412 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.32% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,010, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $32,609 sits slightly below last year's $33,384.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it suggests the GR86 is holding value reasonably well, but not appreciating. If you buy at the right price and keep mileage and condition in check, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 safe?

The GR86 is first and foremost a sports car, so don’t expect the same safety features you’d find in say, the family-focused Highlander.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Each GR86 gets forward collision warning and pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, and the adaptive cruise control does not have stop-and-go functionality. The forward collision warning system was also described as pretty sensitive.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the GR86 top scores of Good in crashworthiness as well as crash avoidance and mitigation, and Acceptable for child seat anchors. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had not given it an overall safety rating at the time of publication.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.32% compared with last year.
• It adds performance upgrades and keeps the affordable, fun-to-drive formula intact.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It sharpens the driver-focused character and emphasizes handling even more.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger shopping opportunity, the 2025 looks appealing because prices have softened and inventory is healthy. If your priority is the newest version of the same enthusiast-first formula, the 2026 is worth a look; if you are price-sensitive, the 2025 is the smarter path.
