Is the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid a good car?

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid earns an 7/10 expert rating, and the overview makes its appeal clear: you get a more efficient take on Subaru’s rugged compact SUV with added power and a few extra features.

The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.

It is a good fit if you want all-weather confidence, everyday usability, and off-road ability without giving up comfort. The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and a firm ride quality, so it is not the choice if you want something especially quick or polished.

The market looks reasonably healthy, with 34.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid reliable?

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is presented as a durable, practical compact SUV with a cabin that uses harder-wearing materials in the rear seating area to help it stand up to everyday use. The overview also points to a comfortable, usable design that should suit drivers who value long-term versatility.

Its hybrid system is described as well-sorted, with smooth transitions between electric and gas power and consistent brake feel. The ride is firmer than expected, but small bumps and ruts are handled well, which supports the sense that it is built for real-world use rather than delicacy.

The cost-effectiveness section also notes that the hybrid system can help offset its price premium over time through fuel savings. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the firmer ride and more complex hybrid hardware may make condition and maintenance history especially important to verify.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are shopping a higher-mileage example or one that has seen rough roads. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, brake feel, and whether the cabin and cargo area show signs of heavy use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The hybrid adds subtle exterior badges, a digital instrument panel, and a more modern cabin presentation, while the top Touring trim adds front-seat ventilation, heated outboard rear seats, and a driver attention monitor. If you want the best value, the lower trims should give you the core hybrid experience without paying for the top-end extras.
• Powertrain: All models use a 2.5-liter flat-four hybrid setup with two motor/generators, a 1.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and 194 horsepower. The system is tuned for smooth everyday use and better traction, with standard AWD and a driveshaft-based rear connection that should help when conditions get slippery or rough.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard, and it includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, rear automatic braking, and automatic high beams. A driver attention monitor is included on the top Touring trim.
• Infotainment: Every Hybrid Forester comes with an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a WiFi hotspot. The system also supports off-road drive menus and multiple camera views, while higher trims add an 11-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is estimated at up to 35 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, with 35 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is offered in 1 trim level: Premium.

Here's the short version:

The Premium trim gives you the full hybrid powertrain, standard AWD, the large vertical touchscreen, and the EyeSight safety suite, so it covers the essentials well. If you want the best value, this is the trim to start with because it delivers the core hybrid benefits without requiring you to move up for the main efficiency and capability advantages.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, with EyeSight included on every Forester Hybrid.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without waiting forever for a better moment.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 547 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.26% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 96.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,848, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $35,853 sits slightly below last year's $38,249.

That price movement suggests the model has softened enough to help you buy more favorably today than a year ago. If you sell later, the current lower entry point may help limit your depreciation exposure compared with buying when prices were higher.

For a future seller, the key question is whether the Forester Hybrid’s efficiency and all-weather appeal keep demand steady. If those strengths continue to resonate with shoppers, resale should remain supported, but the current trend still points to a market that has cooled from last year’s level.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid safe?

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA evaluation except rollover protection, where it earns a four-star rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard, and it includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, rear automatic braking, and automatic high beams. A driver attention monitor is included on the top Touring trim.

The safety testing notes also show a caveat: the non-hybrid Forester earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick award, with an Acceptable result in the newer moderate frontal overlap test rather than the top Good score.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.26% compared with last year.
• The 2025 model stands out for being a more efficient version of Subaru's rugged and evergreen compact SUV, with added power and a few extra features.

The bottom line: if you want the redesigned hybrid with its efficiency boost, standard AWD, and strong all-weather character, the 2025 is the primary path to consider. If you are especially price-sensitive, shop carefully within this year’s inventory and focus on the lower end of the range, where the softened market may give you the best value.
