Used 2024 Subaru Outback for Sale near Illinois

How much does the 2024 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 6.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,538 listings available, which suggests you should have a solid range of choices.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Subaru Outback earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

It fits you well if you want a raised wagon with a spacious interior, strong safety ratings, good ride quality, and a practical feel without moving to a larger SUV. The main trade-offs are an underwhelming base engine and a dated infotainment system, so it makes the most sense if comfort, visibility, and versatility matter more to you than quick acceleration or the newest tech.

37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Outback’s reliability case is reinforced by its practical, proven formula: standard all-wheel drive, a comfortable ride, and a design that prioritizes everyday usability. Its safety and utility focus also suggest a vehicle built for steady ownership rather than flash.

The base engine is the main long-term ownership compromise, since it can feel underpowered when the vehicle is loaded or driven more aggressively.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Premium trims come with cloth seats, while the Outback’s higher trims add more upscale materials and features. The lineup also varies in exterior trim and wheel design, with the Touring trim carrying the most chrome and the Wilderness trim getting its own styling tweaks.
• Powertrain: The default engine is a 2.5-liter flat-four with 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. XT models use a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, and the Wilderness trim also gets that turbo setup.
• Safety package: The EyeSight suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, automatic pre-collision braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert becomes standard on the Onyx Edition, and reverse automatic braking starts with the Onyx trim level.
• Infotainment: The base trim keeps the dual-7-inch-screen setup, while higher trims get the larger 11.6-inch portrait-oriented screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and wireless connectivity starts with the Premium trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is EPA-rated at 26 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 combined. The turbo engine is rated at 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 combined, while the Wilderness returns 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 combined.

Which 2024 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2024 Subaru Outback is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the least expensive way into the Outback, and it gives you the core formula of standard all-wheel drive, good ride quality, and strong safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live with the simpler screen setup and cloth seating.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus more everyday convenience without pushing you into the pricier upper trims. If you want a more modern-feeling Outback without going overboard, this is the one to focus on.
• Onyx Edition: This trim is the gateway to the turbocharged engine if you choose the XT version, and it also adds blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. It suits you if you want more power and a stronger feature set.
• Wilderness: This is the most adventure-focused version, with the turbo engine, all-terrain tires, 9.2 inches of ground clearance, and dual-function X-Mode. It’s the right pick if you want the most capability for rougher roads and outdoor use.
• Limited: This trim adds leather seating surfaces and a more upscale feel without going all the way to the top of the range. It’s a good middle ground if you want comfort and refinement.
• Touring: This is the most luxurious version, with the largest screen, a CD player, a wide-angle camera, a digital rearview mirror, and a driver-attention monitor. It’s the best choice if you want the most comfort and the most advanced equipment.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the Onyx Edition and Touring trims add meaningful extra features.

That softer pricing can work in your favor if you’re buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. If you maintain yours well and keep the mileage reasonable, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the raised-wagon shape, strong safety ratings, and a broad trim range that can feel more tailored across the lineup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,419, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $28,232 average.
• It adds fresh styling, new infotainment and safety tech, and a more accessible Onyx Edition.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $31,282, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $28,232 average.
• It remains a rugged wagon with standard all-wheel drive and strong everyday practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and updated features, the 2024 is the primary pick. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2023 is the smarter value play, while the 2025 makes sense only if you specifically want to pay more for the newer model year.
