CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 1,519 currently listed for sale and an average price of $42,213, 32.0% of 2023 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Sienna 4.11 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
86.1% of 2023 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Sienna stands out in the minivan segment because it uses a standard hybrid engine, a feature that sets it apart from many rivals. That hybrid setup also aligns with what shoppers tend to value most in a family hauler: fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and standard advanced safety features. For buyers who want the practicality of a minivan without giving up efficiency, that combination is the Sienna’s biggest appeal.
It is also easy to see why families are drawn to it. The Sienna is described as a blessing for parents on the go, thanks to the convenience and cargo space that minivans are known for. At the same time, it is not without compromises: the second-row seats are not removable, the transmission is irritating, and acceleration is sluggish. Owners also praise its comfort and fuel economy, though some note concerns about power, engine noise during acceleration, and mixed results with technology such as Apple CarPlay and the backup camera.

Awesome ride, comfort and great mpg. Good looking too. However, backup camera resolution can be improved. Spare tire should come as standard in a minivan.

2023 Sienna XLE 7 passenger AWD My Grandchildrens Favorite! It has lots of room..they can slide the seats back and have living room comfort. They like the rear USB charging ports, rear AC/heat controls, and they can always fit friends back there with them, and their gear. I like it because its comfortable, safe, and gets 35 miles per gallon. The All Wheel Drive is best..most of those available are Front wheel drive. In recent snowstorms, I saw many other vehicles slid off the road, but I never spun a wheel with the AWD. Fantastic resale value, if I ever want to sell it, such as if my needs change. The hybrid is quiet, smooth, and, actually has more horsepower than the older Sienna V6, because the battery assists with extra power when in sport mode. Now, for what I dont like: Irritating Apple car play, when you plug the maps in, you have to wait, and wait, for the directions to appear. Too slow. Apparently, there is no way to upgrade to Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which apparenly solves that problem. Its unclear why Toyota cant/wont allow the software upgrade to make the Apple Car play faster and not frustrating. The back part of the van is difficult to enter, especially for large adults with knee problems. Young adults, under 200 pounds wont have a problem. We carry a step stool so my wife can enter the rear of the van when desired. I do agree, the 3rd seat, when folded down, kind of bounces, unless you set something on it like groceries, suitcases, cargo mat, etc, but that has never caused us any problem. While I have read of unable to start problems because the battery ran down mostly due to defective foot activated door sensors in the 2022 model, I have not had the problem in the 2023 Sienna. For that reason, I recommend avoiding the 2022 Sienna, and go with 2023. I have no desire to go out to my van, and then not be able to start it because the battery is dead, and for that to happen multiple times. I have never had a dead battery in my 2023. It works great every time, except for the issues I mentioned, above. Lastly, my Sienna came with only one key, this is as convient as a broken leg, and they take forever to get me the promised new key...which has never arrived.

| Year-Round Low | $40,927 |
| Year-Round High | $43,019 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $43,019 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.17% |
Prices have softened 2.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,577 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Generally — you’re looking at a 4.11/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and comfort, and the hybrid setup is a major draw for family buyers who want practicality without giving up efficiency. The Sienna’s use as a family hauler comes through clearly in the overview, where convenience, cargo space, and standard advanced safety features are the core appeal.
The trade-offs are just as clear: the transmission can be irritating, acceleration is sluggish, and the tech can feel dated. Even so, the market signal is healthy, with 34.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.11/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle you can count on for efficient, comfortable family use, with repeated praise for its dependable hybrid-driven fuel economy and everyday livability. The expert evaluation also backs up that impression by noting the Sienna’s technology is reliable, even if the interface itself feels old and a bit clunky.
Toyota’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps soften early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about whether the vehicle has been maintained well enough to avoid compounding wear from family-duty use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has seen heavy family use. Focus on interior condition, seat wear, and signs that the vehicle’s convenience features have been used hard over time.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE is the entry point, while the XLE adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate. The XLE is the value-focused pick, and the higher trims add more upscale equipment and finishes.
- Powertrain: Every model uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with two front-mounted electric motors, plus a third rear-mounted electric motor on AWD trims. Output is 245 net system horsepower, and the setup prioritizes efficiency over quick acceleration.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-style driver assistance comes standard with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control.
- Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, an optional navigation system, and seven USB ports. CarPlay and Android Auto require a wired connection.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates AWD models at 35 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined. FWD models are rated at 36 mpg across the board.
Which 2023 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, 25th Anniversary Special Edition.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the starting point if you want the lowest entry price and the core hybrid minivan experience without extra frills.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim because it adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate, which are especially useful for family duty.
- XSE: This trim leans sportier, and the front-wheel-drive version gets 20-inch wheels.
- Limited: This is the upscale step if you want a more premium-feeling Sienna without going all the way to the top trim.
- 25th Anniversary Special Edition: This trim sits just below the Limited and gives you a commemorative alternative in the lineup.
- Platinum: This is the top-shelf choice, with the most upscale presentation and 20-inch wheels on the front-wheel-drive version.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,577 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.17% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,927, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $42,086 sits slightly below last year's $43,019.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the current trend means you may not see rapid appreciation, but the Sienna’s strong family appeal and efficiency should help support demand.
Because this model year combines a hybrid powertrain with strong owner satisfaction, it should remain attractive to used shoppers over time. That kind of broad appeal usually helps resale hold up better than it would for a less practical minivan.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.11/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna safe?
The 2023 Toyota Sienna earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, and the mechanically identical 2022 model received a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota equips the Sienna with a strong standard driver-assistance suite that includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That standard safety content is a major advantage if you’re shopping for a family vehicle.
The main caveat is that the 2023 model itself had not yet been rated by IIHS at the time of the expert review, even though the related prior model earned top honors. For used buyers, that means the Sienna looks very strong on paper, but you should still confirm the exact equipment on the specific trim you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.17% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.11/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 stands out for its standard hybrid powertrain, strong efficiency, and family-friendly practicality.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,207, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $42,086 average.
- It keeps the standard hybrid setup and adds a new adventurous-looking Woodland trim.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $45,126, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $42,086 average.
- It adds a more modern-feeling take on the same efficient hybrid family-hauler formula.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, efficiency, and available inventory, the 2023 is the smart default. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is worth a close look. If you want to spend more for the newer model-year experience, the 2024 is the next step up.
