How much does the 2023 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 930 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Toyota Prius earns a 4.33/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

The 2023 Prius is aimed at you if you want a hybrid that feels more stylish and more complete than earlier versions, with a sleeker design, stronger power, and a reasonable mix of interior tech and comfort features. The trade-offs are real, though: the price is up sharply, the engine can get loud when pushed, and interior and cargo space have shrunk.

Cons: The engine can drone loudly when you ask for hard acceleration, and the reduced interior space may matter if you regularly carry passengers or cargo.

Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Prius is presented as a hybrid built around proven efficiency and everyday usability, with a powertrain that feels more capable than earlier versions while still preserving its fuel-sipping character. The expert review also describes it as a comfortable daily driver with solid road manners and a well-isolated cabin in normal use.

Its performance notes point to a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a more powerful electric motor and lithium-ion battery, and the review says the car feels more athletic and eager than before. That combination suggests a modernized setup rather than a fragile or overly complicated one, and the cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that the higher price is tied to meaningful upgrades rather than superficial changes.

Long-term ownership risk for used buyers looks moderate, mainly because the higher purchase price and added complexity make condition and maintenance history more important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Prius?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because even a strong accident-free share does not guarantee the individual car you’re considering has a clean past. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or signs of heavy commuting use. Focus on overall condition, since the model’s value depends heavily on whether the interior, exterior, and mechanical systems still reflect its newer-generation upgrades.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE gives you the essentials, but the XLE adds 19-inch wheels, faux leather seats, a power driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, front and rear parking sensors, and a smart key. The Limited adds a JBL sound system, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, and Digital Key, making it the best-value choice if you want the richest feature set.
• Powertrain: You get a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a more powerful electric motor and lithium-ion battery. FWD models make 194 total horsepower, while AWD models make 196 total horsepower, and the review notes that acceleration is much stronger than before.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes radar-based adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure alerts with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is also included, and Advanced Park is available on the Limited.
• Infotainment: The LE and XLE use an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLE can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch screen, and that larger display is standard on the Limited. All trims also get a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: The model is described as fuel-sipping and efficient, but no MPG figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2023 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Prius is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Prius experience with 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features.
• XLE: This is the trim we’d steer most shoppers toward because it adds 19-inch wheels, faux leather seats, a power driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, parking sensors, and a smart key. It’s the best-value trim if you want the Prius to feel more upscale without jumping all the way to the top model.
• Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, with the larger 12.3-inch screen, JBL audio, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, and Digital Key. Choose it if you want the most comfort and tech, and the available Limited Package adds a 360-degree camera and hands-free parking.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on every trim, so you do not need to move up the lineup to get the core driver-assistance package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with patience and compare listings closely.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 930 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,063, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $27,760 sits slightly below last year's $27,801.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate your future trade-in or private-party value because the model is not swinging sharply in either direction.

The Prius also benefits from strong buyer interest tied to its efficiency, updated styling, and broad appeal as a hybrid. If you keep the car in good condition and maintain it well, those traits should help support demand when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2023 Prius has Toyota’s latest suite of active safety features bundled together as Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

That standard package includes radar-based adaptive cruise control that works at any speed, pre-collision braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure alerts with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is also included, and Advanced Park is available on the Limited trim.

One important caveat is that crash-test results from IIHS and NHTSA were not yet available in the source data, so you should rely on the standard safety equipment and any later test results when comparing used examples.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings a major styling overhaul plus a big power increase while keeping the Prius efficiency formula intact.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $29,535, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $27,760 average.
• It adds available plug-in hybrid power and more flexibility in how you configure the car.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2023 is the smarter starting point because it already delivers the new design, stronger performance, and solid safety equipment at a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for added flexibility and a newer model-year alternative, the 2024 is worth a look.
