CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Lexus ES

Summary
With 905 currently listed for sale and an average price of $39,164.00, 35.4% of 2023 Lexus ES models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Lexus ES 5 / 5 stars.
86.6% of 2023 Lexus ES models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Lexus ES stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that prioritizes comfort, refinement, and value over flash. It is based on the same platform as the Toyota Avalon and Camry from this era, and the redesign brought increased structural rigidity, a wider stance, and an overall increase in length of almost three inches. Lexus also moved the seating position lower and further back, which helped create additional rear-seat legroom. The styling leans more expressive than before, with a large spindle grille, sharp body creases, and a coupe-like roofline, but the ES still stays true to its role as a quiet, pampering sedan.
For 2023, Lexus introduced the F Sport Design, which dropped the adaptive dampers and sportier suspension tune. That makes the 2023 ES less about athleticism and more about the relaxed driving character that has long defined the model. The standard equipment list remains a strong selling point, with synthetic leather upholstery, heated power front seats, LED headlights, a power moonroof, and a suite of safety features that includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Available upgrades such as a Mark Levinson stereo, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof, surround-view cameras, and a power rear sunshade add appeal for shoppers who want a more upscale experience.
The main tradeoff is that the ES is not especially exciting to drive or look at, and that is part of its identity. It is aimed at buyers who want a reliable, comfortable, and well-equipped luxury sedan rather than a performance car. For shoppers who value a smooth ride, generous rear-seat space, and a calm cabin, the 2023 Lexus ES makes a compelling case.

Downsized from BMW 540i for more comforts but still decent pop/handling. ALL main cabin features of BMW transferred to Lexus ES though some learning on new systems will be required. Great the control pad on the console has been replaced in 2023. Saved roughly $20K upfront with Lexus plus more ongoing with regular, not premium, fuel. ES hybrid would have saved even more ongoing but I was not ready to take that drastic of a performance drop yet.

The overview describes it as a midsize luxury sedan that prioritizes comfort, refinement, and value over flash, with a quiet cabin and a relaxed driving character. It also highlights generous rear-seat space and a strong standard equipment list, so you should expect a well-equipped daily driver rather than a sporty one. With 36.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Lexus ES reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview emphasizes a comfort-first, well-equipped luxury sedan with a calm cabin and a relaxed driving character, which fits the kind of ownership experience many used buyers want. It also points to a strong standard safety and convenience package, which adds to the sense of everyday dependability.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about excitement and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained consistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Lexus ES?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with the history report to confirm accident status, title history, and maintenance patterns. Then prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, electronics, and comfort features, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well those systems work. Focus on overall condition and evidence of careful ownership, because a luxury sedan like this tends to feel its best when it has been maintained consistently.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Lexus ES?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 902 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.20% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 85.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,700.81, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Lexus ES's resale value?
The current average of $39,120 sits slightly above last year's $38,276.
That upward move suggests the market still values this model year, which can help support resale strength if you buy carefully. A stable price trend also gives future sellers a better chance of recovering value, especially if the car remains in clean condition and has a strong service history. Because demand appears steady rather than weak, a well-kept example should be easier to move later than a neglected one.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Lexus ES or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.20% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $35,777, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $39,120 average.
- It offers multiple powertrain choices for buyers who want more flexibility.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2023 if you want the newer model-year pricing context, strong owner satisfaction, and a comfort-first luxury sedan with solid inventory depth. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2022 is the better value path, especially if you find one in strong condition and the lower price matters more than the newer-year premium.
