Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty a good car?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty earns an 8.5/10 expert rating, and the standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is a well-rounded heavy-duty pickup that combines strong capability with a broad range of trims, so you can match it to your needs and budget. Its biggest strengths are powerful engines, impressive towing ability, and technology that is easy to use.

The trade-offs are clear: it can get expensive quickly, its engines are thirsty, and its wide turning radius can make it less convenient in tight spaces.

For you, that means this truck makes the most sense if you want a large pickup that balances work-ready strength with everyday usability. 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty reliable?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is presented as a well-rounded heavy-duty pickup with straightforward capability, useful technology, and a broad trim range that helps you tailor the truck to your needs.

Its powertrain lineup is built around strong output, and the diesel option is described as a stump-pulling setup that stays in the optimal powerband thanks to the 10-speed automatic. The truck’s towing-focused tech, including Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and onboard scales, also points to a design that is meant to handle demanding use with less guesswork.

Ford also notes that the truck is a solid value because even lower trims deliver more truck than ever before, which can help you avoid overbuying if you do not need luxury features. For long-term ownership, the biggest risk is that a used example may have been worked hard, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because heavy-duty trucks are often used for towing, hauling, and other demanding jobs. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on wear items, signs of hard use, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the way it was advertised. Pay extra attention to overall condition, since the right truck can be a great value but a neglected one can become expensive fast.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is a work truck but still includes 17-inch wheels, vinyl upholstery, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLT adds cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, two wall-style power outlets, and an integrated trailer brake controller. The Lariat brings leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless device charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, a fully digital instrument panel, remote start, a heated steering wheel, and a larger 12-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited add progressively more luxury and convenience, with the Limited featuring nearly every package and option found on the other trims.
• Powertrain: The base engine is a 6.8-liter gas V8 with 400 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. You can also get a 7.3-liter V8 with 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque, or a 6.7-liter PowerStroke turbodiesel V8 with 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. A high-output version of the diesel makes 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. The 10-speed automatic helps keep the diesel in its powerband, and the truck can be configured with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive depending on trim and setup.
• Safety package: Ford CoPilot 360 starts at the XLT trim and can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system. Some features depend on how much you’ve paid for the truck, so check the exact equipment on the listing you are considering.
• Infotainment: The base setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can get a 12-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, plus a logical control layout and redundant dials for radio and climate functions.
• Fuel efficiency: One site reports around 11 mpg for the 6.8-liter gas engine, around 11 to 12 mpg for the 7.3-liter gas engine, and between 13 and 17 mpg for the 6.7-liter diesel engine. In combined driving, the truck returned 17.9 mpg.

Which 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most affordable way into the lineup, and it still gives you the essentials you need for work, including an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a basic but usable cabin. It makes the most sense if you want the truck’s core capability without paying for extras.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat, cloth upholstery, two wall-style power outlets, and an integrated trailer brake controller. It also unlocks Ford CoPilot 360, so you get a meaningful safety upgrade without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Lariat: This is the trim to choose if you want a more comfortable daily driver, since it adds leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, a digital instrument panel, remote start, and the larger 12-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration.
• King Ranch: This is the luxury-truck choice if you want distinctive styling and a richer cabin, including two-tone leather, an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, auxiliary switches, and available towing and bed-focused equipment that makes it especially appealing if you still plan to use the truck hard.
• Platinum: This trim gives you similar comfort to the King Ranch but with a more cosmopolitan look, plus features like LED fog lights, power-deploying running boards, a powered tailgate, and power-adjustable pedals.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice if you want nearly everything Ford offers, including max-recline seats, a massive dual-panel sunroof, and unique interior and exterior styling.

Starting at the XLT trim, Ford CoPilot 360 brings the core driver-assistance features, but the exact equipment depends on trim and options.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,148 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.03% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $56,164, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $56,164 sits slightly below last year's $59,766.

That price movement suggests the truck has softened enough to improve your buying position today. If you plan to sell later, the current market indicates you may not recover as much as a previous owner did at last year’s higher average.

For a future seller, the key takeaway is that heavy-duty trucks can hold value well when demand is strong, but this model’s recent decline shows that pricing can move meaningfully. If you buy at the right number now and keep the truck in strong condition, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation pain later.

Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty safe?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty has not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford CoPilot 360 is the named driver-assistance suite, and depending on trim it can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system.

That suite matters because the truck is large and can be difficult to place in tight spaces, so the camera system and blind-spot aids are especially useful. Some safety features are trim-dependent, so you should confirm the exact equipment on any used listing before you buy.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.03% compared with last year.
• The 2023 stands out for being exceptionally well-rounded, with a broad trim range and strong capability that can fit both work and everyday use.

The bottom line: If you want a heavy-duty truck that balances capability, technology, and trim flexibility, the 2023 is the one to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on lower-trim examples, since the market currently offers a meaningful number of deals and a decent amount of accident-free inventory.
