You should still run a vehicle history report and confirm the car’s condition matches the listing. Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 42.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $18,939, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,330 average.
• It introduced Volkswagen’s first mainstream electric crossover.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $22,892, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,330 average.
• It adds a new base model and more standard tech features.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around choice if you want a strong mix of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want newer features and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is the upgrade path.
