Used 2022 Toyota Tacoma for Sale nearHowell, NJ

How much does the 2022 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 2.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,213 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.36/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers most often praise its reliability, fuel economy, and off-road capability, and they also like its resale value and overall performance in rough terrain. The Tacoma’s easy-to-use technology is another recurring plus.

The trade-offs are familiar: the base engine is underpowered, the back seat is cramped, and some shoppers feel the value trails competitors. That lines up with the overview, which frames this truck as a smaller alternative to a full-size pickup for commuting, weekend projects, and outdoor trips.

Only 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market has some room for negotiation but not a flood of bargains.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.36/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, dependability, and trouble-free ownership, with many drivers describing the Tacoma as a truck they can count on over the long haul. The expert evaluation also calls it supremely trusty and durable, which reinforces that reputation.

Toyota’s ownership experience is helped by the Tacoma’s straightforward design and proven mechanical setup, and the available maintenance-friendly ownership experience adds to its appeal. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the truck’s core durability and more about finding one that hasn’t been worked hard or neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Tacoma?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a truck like this may have seen towing, trail use, or heavy weekend-duty miles. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension wear, steering feel, brake condition, and signs of hard use. Condition matters a lot here, especially if you want the Tacoma’s durability to translate into low-stress ownership.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR starts with 16-inch steel wheels, a Class IV tow-hitch receiver, manual seats, a 7-inch touchscreen, and standard Toyota Safety Sense, while higher trims add fog lights, larger wheels, upgraded audio, leather, heated seats, and more comfort features.
• Powertrain: The base 2.7-liter four-cylinder makes 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 3.5-liter V6 makes 278 hp and 265 lb-ft and is the better choice for most shoppers.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors are optional.
• Infotainment: The base truck gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while every trim but the SR gets an 8-inch screen. The system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa, and wireless device charging is available on some trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.7-liter four-cylinder with rear-wheel drive returns 20 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. The V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. With 4WD, the V6 returns 18 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined, while the V6/manual/4WD setup returns 17 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the value entry point, and it gives you the essentials: a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, a tow-hitch receiver, and standard Toyota Safety Sense. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Tacoma lineup.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an 8-inch touchscreen, with a power-sliding rear window on Double Cab V6 models.
• TRD Sport: This trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a TRD-tuned sport suspension, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless device charging, and a 10-way power driver’s seat. It suits you if you want a more polished daily driver without going full trail-focused.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the one to choose if you want the Tacoma’s trail hardware, with all-terrain tires, Bilstein shocks, a locking rear differential, and trail-focused features like Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control. It’s the clear pick for buyers who plan to use the truck off pavement.
• Limited: This trim leans more toward comfort and convenience, with leather upholstery, JBL premium audio, navigation, heated front seats, and a power moonroof. It’s the right fit if you want the most upscale Tacoma experience.
• TRD Pro: This is the range-topper, with unique exterior styling, underbody skid plates, LED fog lights, a TRD-tuned suspension, and a TRD sport exhaust. It’s the most capable-looking and most off-road-oriented version in the lineup.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard on the SR, and the available blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors remain optional rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully but not so much that every listing is a bargain.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,213 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.03% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,991, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $32,984 sits slightly below last year's $33,667.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also suggests the truck has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation. For a future seller, that can be a positive sign if you buy well and keep the truck in clean condition.

The Tacoma’s strong reputation for reliability and owner satisfaction should help support demand when it’s time to sell. Trucks with this kind of loyal following often hold attention better than less established rivals.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.36/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The Toyota Tacoma earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors are optional, so you may want to prioritize a better-equipped trim or option package if those features matter to you.

The backup camera is standard, but the image is described as very grainy, so you should be especially careful when backing up.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.36/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It blends commuter-friendly usability with strong off-road ability and easy-to-use tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,251, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $32,984 average.
• It offers broad configuration choice, including special editions and a strong off-road focus.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $36,054, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $32,984 average.
• It leans harder into the Tacoma’s reputation for bullet-proof reliability and off-road brilliance.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the better all-around pick if you want a proven Tacoma with strong satisfaction, decent inventory, and softer pricing than last year. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly route; if you want to pay more for the next model year’s appeal, the 2023 is the step up to consider.
