Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Sienna stands out as a hybrid minivan that carries over Toyota’s redesigned formula into its second model year. Its standard hybrid powertrain returns unchanged, giving it a fuel-efficient character that helps define the vehicle’s appeal. For buyers who want a family hauler with a more adventurous look, a new Woodland trim level is available.
Beyond its efficiency, the 2022 Toyota Sienna is also notable for its practicality. It offers plenty of cargo space and earns great safety ratings, both of which matter in a minivan aimed at families. The main drawback is price: it is priced higher than competitors, so shoppers may need to weigh its strengths against that premium.

After doing some research, we decided that a Honda or Toyota mini-van would be the best option for our expanding family. We ultimately went with the Toyota Sienna due to it being a hybrid, captain seats in the middle row, full trunk that will actually fit stuff, and the drive ability.

Drives great, great mileage. Im impressed with the screen options and data it tracks- even on the base LE model. Im excited to drive it every time I get in!

Hybrid Sienna is great value. Compare to more expensive Hybrid Pacifica. Other brands should come online next year. Supply of Sienna Hybrid is very low. Not taking new orders. Probably will be well into 2023 model year before supply returns.

Great fuel economy for this size vehicle. Little expensive, but will save on gas during ownership. Needs a little more power hp, but would be buying for the great gas mileage. Compare this Sienna to a Chrysler Pacifica hybrid, which is also expensive.

How much does the 2022 Toyota Sienna cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $37,260 |
| Year-Round Low | $36,529.57 |
| Year-Round High | $39,642.23 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $39,645 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.02% |
Prices have softened 6.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,377 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare options.
If you find a listing below $36,529.57, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.75/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating.
The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
You get a hybrid minivan that emphasizes fuel efficiency and practicality, with plenty of cargo space and a family-friendly cabin layout. The standard hybrid powertrain and roomy seating make it a strong fit if you want a minivan that leans into usefulness rather than flash.
The main trade-off is price: it is positioned above many rivals, and the expert review also notes that it is priced higher than competitors. That premium matters most if you are shopping strictly on value.
Only 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market rewards patience and comparison shopping.
Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Sienna’s hybrid setup is a major part of its durability story, and the expert review highlights that Toyota’s hybrid system returns unchanged for this model year. It also notes a 10-year/150,000-mile warranty for the hybrid battery pack, which adds confidence for long-term ownership.
The powertrain is described as smooth and efficient, and the vehicle’s overall design is built around everyday family use rather than complexity. That combination usually points to a lower-stress ownership experience if you keep up with routine maintenance.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying a premium for a vehicle that may already be priced near the top of its segment.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or a vehicle with optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of heavy family use, and whether the cabin and cargo area show the wear you would expect from a minivan.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base models are well equipped, but upper trims add larger wheels, more upscale cabin touches, and more convenience features. If you want the best balance of equipment and value, compare the midrange trims carefully before moving up.
- Powertrain: The Sienna uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for 243 horsepower. FWD is standard, AWD is available, and the hybrid setup is tuned for smooth, efficient driving.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Toyota’s Star Safety System is also standard.
- Infotainment: A 9-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, one USB media port, and six USB charging ports. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
- Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 36 mpg city/36 mpg highway/36 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 35 mpg city/36 mpg highway/35 mpg combined.
Which 2022 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, Woodland Edition.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Sienna experience: hybrid efficiency, standard safety tech, a 9-inch touchscreen, and practical family space. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and do not need extra luxury or convenience features.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience without jumping too far in price. It also unlocks more available tech and family-friendly options, making it a smart middle ground.
- XSE: This trim adds a more distinctive, sportier look and sits above the XLE in price. Choose it if you want a more expressive Sienna without moving all the way to the luxury end.
- Limited: This is where the Sienna starts to feel more upscale, with more premium equipment and available tech upgrades. It suits you if comfort and features matter more than keeping the purchase price down.
- Woodland Edition: This trim is AWD-only and seven-passenger only, and it is aimed at buyers who want a more adventurous appearance and standard all-wheel drive. It is the right pick if that character matters to you more than maximum value.
- Platinum: This is the top-end choice, with the most upscale equipment and the most advanced available tech. Buy it only if you want the most feature-rich Sienna and are comfortable paying for it.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,377 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.02% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,529.57, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $37,260 sits slightly below last year's $39,645.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale may depend heavily on how well you preserve the vehicle. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the hybrid system properly, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.
Because the Sienna is a practical, fuel-efficient family vehicle, demand should remain steady among shoppers who want a minivan with lower running costs. Well-kept examples are likely to hold up better than neglected ones, especially if they have clean history reports and desirable equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna safe?
The 2022 Sienna was a five-star vehicle according to NHTSA, and the 2021 model received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Toyota’s Star Safety System is also standard, along with 10 airbags, multiple LATCH child-seat connectors, a rear-seat reminder system, tire-pressure monitoring, and an inflator kit.
The main caveat is that the IIHS result cited is for the prior model year, though the review expects the 2022 model to match it. For used buyers, that means you should still verify the exact vehicle’s equipment and condition, even though the safety package is strong.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.02% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a new Woodland trim for buyers who want a more adventurous look.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $35,049, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $37,260 average.
- It introduced the redesigned hybrid Sienna.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $42,227, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $37,260 average.
- It keeps the hybrid formula and emphasizes standard safety and space.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current pricing, strong safety, and hybrid efficiency, the 2022 is the one to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money, while the 2023 makes sense only if you are willing to pay more for a newer example.
