Used 2022 Toyota Sequoia for Sale nearNew Lenox, IL

Is the 2022 Toyota Sequoia a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Sequoia earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

It fits you best if you want a traditional, truck-based three-row SUV with rear-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive, plus a powerful V8 and plenty of cargo space. The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and dated technology, along with interior styling that feels old compared with newer rivals.

The market signal is mixed but workable, with 38.8% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sequoia reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Sequoia’s body-on-frame design, shared truck platform, and V8 powertrain point to the kind of durability many used buyers want in a large SUV. The expert evaluation also describes the engine and transmission combination as having an excellent reputation for durability and reliability, which supports its appeal if you plan to keep it for the long haul.

If you want a used full-size SUV that prioritizes toughness and longevity over modern polish, this one makes sense. Your main long-term ownership risk is living with its age-related compromises, especially fuel economy and outdated tech.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Sequoia?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, interior condition, and how well the truck-based chassis has been maintained. Since this is an older design, condition matters more than mileage alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Nightshade Special Edition is based on the Limited and adds darkened chrome or black-painted exterior trim and blacked-out 20-inch wheels, while the base SR5 is the starting point. The base trim also misses some of the upper-trim convenience and appearance upgrades, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want the best value.
• Powertrain: You get one engine choice, the 5.7-liter i-Force V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. It is tuned for durability and towing, and 4WD models add a lockable Torsen limited-slip center differential and two-speed transfer case with low range.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard, along with Toyota’s STAR safety system and a full set of airbags.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, WiFi connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Limited adds navigation and a 12-speaker audio system, and a premium audio and convenience package adds native navigation, 14 JBL speakers, a subwoofer, and an amplifier.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sequoia returns 13 mpg city/17 mpg highway/15 mpg combined with RWD and 13 mpg city/17 mpg highway/14 mpg combined with 4WD.

Which 2022 Toyota Sequoia trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Pro, Limited, Platinum, and Nightshade Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point if you want the Sequoia’s core strengths at the lowest price. It gives you the standard V8, standard safety tech, and the basic truck-based formula, but it is the trim most likely to feel sparse if you want more comfort or style.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look and a step up from the base model without jumping all the way to the luxury-oriented trims. It makes sense if you value appearance and a slightly more tailored feel.
• TRD Pro: This is the one to choose if you want the most off-road-focused version. It comes standard with four-wheel drive, and the suspension gets special attention for enhanced capability.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful convenience and tech upgrades, including navigation and a 12-speaker audio system. It also serves as the basis for the Nightshade Special Edition.
• Nightshade Special Edition: Pick this if you want the Limited’s equipment with a darker appearance package. The blacked-out trim and wheels give the Sequoia a more modern look without changing its core mechanical setup.
• Platinum: This is the top trim and the most expensive path if you want the most upscale Sequoia experience. It sits at the top of the lineup and is the trim to consider if you want maximum equipment.

Toyota Safety Sense P and blind-spot monitoring are standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up trims to get the core safety package.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the truck-based V8 formula, standard safety tech, and strong towing capability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• It offers a similarly roomy, truck-like SUV with standard V8 power.

Consider the 2023 if:

• It brings a full redesign with modern tech and a standard hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the classic Sequoia formula, the 2022 is the right year to target because it preserves the rugged, body-on-frame character that defines the model. If you are more price-sensitive and want the same basic old-school strengths, the 2021 is worth a look; if you want a much newer-feeling SUV, the 2023 is the better path.
